Let's discover who reads basejumper.com!
It is easy to find basejumper.com users that call themselves BASE jumpers. (Well duh... I'd expect they be the majority of folks who come here.)

I also find posts by many people who WANT to BASE jump. Heck, I think they should read, lurk. etc. to better understand what they wish to do.

I also can easily identify complete non-jumpers who visit us. Some only stop by when a loved one joins the list Unsure. Some groundcrew and feel part of the team. Some surely will fall into Law Enforcement, or folks researching BASE.

So, EVERYONE can participate in this poll! Just indicate how you rate yourself. Simple. As always, I have no way of knowing how you vote. This is a perfect time for lurkers to participate.

Thanks!

So you can't be both a BASE jumper and a Skydiver?

i have one piece of advice for you. garbage in...garbage out!

now i have one question for you. should i only be a base jumper on this website and switch over to be a skydiver when i'm on dorkzone?

anyway, i'm both.

Of course virtually every BASE jumper is also a skydiver.

I separated them to help pinpoint where every one falls in the standard progression of non-jumper -> skydiver -> BASE jumper. I set no criteria. It is all about how one views themselves.

Obviously some of the best skydivers in the world also BASE...

and there are folks that HAVE jumped at BD, but don't consider themselves BASE jumpers, yet.

I´m one of the said non-jumers. since the day my best friend died i wanted to know every fact that leads to his death, and reading more and more I found answeres to my questions (or not). this interest continues til now...
Til now that must be thousands of hits on this page by me (and my alter ego). and I must say I know already pretty much about your sport and could give my 2cents to a lot of questions, but I rarely post.
Bj.com became subconsciously my dialy soap. are there others in my situation? PM me if you want.
ironically basejumping satifies me very much and maybe one day...

thanks to the mod for this poll.

I'm sorry about your friend. While I can't relate on that level, I know how you feel, wanting to know all about this activity.

I'm a nonjumper, who is here because of a family member who is an active member of BASE and I am in full support of that. But, while I have no interest in starting to jump, not even skydive, really, I have a great interest in the community.

But I post, and it's no secret I am not a jumper. I'm a band-aid. Laugh

I am sorry about your friend, and you were a very good friend to him because instead of judging him for his activity you looked into it. I respect that. a lot. as for you learning about BASE on this board;

some would say take everything you read on this forum with a grain of salt,

I would say BASEjumper.com is more like the salt, used to distract and justify the things we do with an illusion of a more complicated taste.
There are much better forms of learning about BASE than dorkzone posts.

the articles are good, but most of us are only here for the entertainment.

hello everybody,
that's good thread to write something for start - it's my first post here Sly

I read this forum since I started skydiving - it's about 1 year ago. I think bj.com is very good source of BASE knowledge for people like me - who skydive and dream about BASE.
I live in Poland - there is only a few BASE jumpers so the internet is the main place where I can find answers for many (sometimes stupid) questions.

nowadays I gather experience in skydive,
but someday in the future... Wink

ps. sorry for my EnglishWink

welcome to the site!

please don't worry about your English. you are NOT the first here. I recommend you add "Poland" to your profile, so people will realize English is not your main language.

I had to rate myself as a skydiver who lurks the site. With only 8 scattered BASE jumps over the years, I'm not current enough to call myself a BASE jumper.

Some cliff in Norway will be calling my name someday.

Yup, I'm a non-jumper. I've been lurking fopr about a year and a half now. I've only made about ten posts, usually questions and every time I was helped very clearly. Actually that help lead to my first skydive. I still only have two but I hope to knock a lot out this summer and maybe one day...

Definitely not a basejumper at my age, but if they gave out basewatcher numbers I'd have a respectable one. Hiking along the Snake River Canyon rim by the Perrine Bridge makes it hard to avoid, if one has any curiosity at all. My short time today noted an Iranian from Canada, a Portlander via Norway, and a Portlander via Canada.

Re: [wwarped] Let's discover who reads basejumper.com!
I'm a bit surprised. after nearly 200 votes (making it a very popular poll) only 7/10 folks consider themselves BASE jumpers.

'course nothing about it is scientific. and people will interpret it differently.

Hell no I'm not a skydiver. Me no jumpee out of airplanee and pull my string in over 10 years. That's like going back to diapers to me. No offense, sorry if too late, but was turned off by skydiving personalities, not the sport itself...

Re: [wwarped] Let's discover who reads basejumper.com!
I'm someone who skydives (125 jumps) and, obviously, doesn't BASE jump. I don't like to call myself a skydiver because I don't have a lot of jumps, I'm not at the dropzone every weekend like many others and during the winter I usually don't jump at all. I consider myself more as 'somene who skydives occasionally', but I did vote 'skydiver'. I've been reading these forums since before my first jump. Initially I started skydiving because I want to start BASE jumping at some time in my life. I'm just taking it very slow, trying to learn as much as I can, and trying to stay alive as long as possible. I'm still young, so I don't see the need to start BASE jumping as soon as possible. BASE won't go way. I've got lots of time and in the meanwhile I can try to learn as much as I can. That is one of the reasons I come to these forums.
