improving bj.com
this site will become whatever the users make of it. some think it has lost some relevance. some think it has "jumped the shark." fine. so how do we make it better? how do we make it more relevant?
my suggestions...
- contribute to the signal, not the noise.
- remaining positive, and avoid acting defensive.
- share stories, not attitude.
- read and ensure you understood the point, avoiding knee jerk reactions.
- the quickest responses are the ones most likely to be mis-understood.
- remember readers come to this site from around the world. spelling, grammar, and humor might differ tremendously.
- encourage safe, responsible behavior.
- remember everyone screws up and can learn.
- remember annoying, overly enthusiastic newbies often turn into responsible contributers.
- ask yourself how can YOU help make this into a better, more useful site.
- feel free to post suggestions.
- by definition, a moderator should not answer all the questions. the dialogue should be between users.
- remember great ideas can come from the most unlikely places. no one knows it all. thus, we ought to encourage MORE voices. drama discourages them.
of course there is also...
- drama that leads to increased safety is a good thing. heated discussions educate people, when done right.
- responsible users know their limits. no one can know everything. limit advice to things you know, or ensure people know it is speculation.
stay safe.
have fun.
jump for joy.
