Hello, folks.

Before anyone feels the need to point it out in a comment, no, I am not a jumper.

But anywho, I am working on some B.A.S.E. rotoscoping. That's animation that is just tracing over existing video/film/etc., such as the recent Waltz With Bashir, the older A Scanner Darkly, and the awesome Waking Life.

But yeah, it's part of a larger project, not that it matters.

I just wanted some jumpers' opinions.

What other kinds of stylistic, funny, or artistic ways would be cool to rotoscope a jumper? I've gotten the advice to do jumpers with no 'chutes, or just the parachute, things like that. But that was from my animation prof.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Hate it? Please let me know.

how bout sittin in the back of a cop car, while they figure out what to arrest you for and the whole time your damn phone is ringing and Its your wife wanting you to bring home some damn milk cause she forgot to stop cause she was talking to her sister in Atlanta then the cop finds your ski mask in the back seat and the whole time he asking you what this is for your watching your phone vibrate its way off of the hood of the patrol car onto the ground and break open on impact all the while you are secretly thinking that maybe the person on the other end of the phone broke open too, boy that would show her/////sorry

Any way you could take footage
of someone doing a jump and just
apply your magic to them but let
the object and background remain?

I think it would be AWESOME to take a lot of video of people jumping in certian very high profile magic areas, and do OPPOSITE of what greenmachine said.

lets say, for example, that someone was jumping off something a NP, the video is AWESOME, but cannot be shared because it would incriminate the jumper and footage holder.

so, leave the jumper, but animate the NP behind him. or even change the NP.

PS first animated jumper in your film looks like an idiot.

i'm not a jumper either*, i am a lurker & have been watching you - here is my opinion

it's cool & well done; i like it - reminded me of this

* i used to jump - had a kid 1 yr ago & it slowed me down - i used to jump a lot

here is a brief synopsis of my 6 jump, 10 yr base career

2 a (hh) 1st 1996 v-13 with raven 3 reserve/fxc1200 cruiselite/tailpocket free-packed & some kinda big 'base' pc (student/demo gear) - climbed to 975 (slow 1h 10min). 1997 2nd borrowed (thanks melvin) velcro rig & mojo climbed 975 (fast 40 min)
3 s (stowed) 2006
1 b (stowed) 2007
2 aerials (#'s 3 & 5)
2 objects opened (s was nrgb- so that wasn't it)

i built a velcro harness/container (1997) & converted an old power-racer d (?) into a two-pin 'baser', frankie - stylie (2006) - both jumped bd2006
