KL 2009 - Who has confirmed?
I'm interested in knowing who has confirmed to go this year? Will it be busy?
Shortcut
Re: [meekerboy] KL 2009 - Who has confirmed?
i assume this is an invite event? ive always been curious about that big ass thing. how many seconds till impact anyways?
Shortcut
Re: [UberChris] KL 2009 - Who has confirmed?
6 seconds is a health delay with not that much time for setup and landing.

So I guess around 8 seconds is where your going to need to break open an extra large box of paracetemol.

I put in an application, and intend to go this year for the whole tour... no replies yet though...

I spoke to one of the organizers last week and believe there are around 20 jumpers that have registered at this moment.

It sounds like a low number again for this year if that is for just KL tower.

I guess if Merara KL get desperate they will drop their ultra low experience requirements and run first jump courses off their most difficult buildings again.
It worked for them last year with only one of their first jump students crashing down the side of the Telekom Malaysia building.

Should make for an interestng event again this year.

Yeah, when I sent my registration I received email from the organizers that said "Received your registration form with thanks" but after that no confirmation? Should I have received additional confirmation or can I interpret that that way that I'm comfirmed to the boogie?

Re: [maretus] KL 2009 - Who has confirmed?
Now that Sophia has left Menara KL the best person to communicate with there is probably Idros Yusop idros.yusop@menarakl.com.my. Or maybe whoever it is with username “KLTowerOrganiser” on this thread.

I believe they currently have about 31 people for KL Tower and 2 people for their tour.

I recently heard that Damai Wall (the Batu Caves cliff) will no longer be part of Menara KL’s event. Those that look after the area around Damai Wall would like to host their own event most likely with the help of Persatuan BASE Malaysia (Malaysia BASE Association). They will release more information about this in the future.

Persatuan BASE Malaysia and I are still working on a 2 building event in Sabah directly following the KL Tower event.
We know Menara KL have issued a schedule to some jumpers with Menara Tun Mustapha in Sabah included at the beginning of their tour but we don’t believe that will happen. It is our understanding that Menara KL will not be welcome back to host events there.

I imagine most of their other locations will go ahead as planned.

What a bunch of crap! The worst organized event ever!!!
Forget them, l'll try to go to Sabah BASE 2009 instead.

Shit.... I was going to sign up for the tour, but notwithstanding the fact that I can't get a response from them, only 2 people are going!?

Shortcut
Re: [Gary_C] KL 2009 - Who has confirmed?
I recently also heard that the "shark fin" building Menara Telekom is going to be out of the event as well. Don't know whats the reason. I guess we'll just have to wait for KL Tower to release the latest schedule to get the final deal.

I believe, they plan to do 5 days of jumping at KL Tower including night jumps. Menara Tamingsari (80m, ~250ft) will also have night jumps.

Damai is always available to jump. Heading up there this weekend.
FYI...Damai is organizing an accuracy landing competition sometime in August 2009 for the Malaysian Jumpers. According to the organizers, if your around, your invited. There will be prize money. Will update when I get more details.

Re: [matty4667] KL 2009 - Who has confirmed?
Start at Alor Setar if you go.

The Komtar building in Penang and Alor Setar tower in Alor Setar are definitely worth going to.

The first short building and the short amusement tower don't appear to be well thought out as far as boogie type jumping.

Hotel arrangements were made in the past however, they are only arrangements. You still paid the bill yourself as it's not part of the entry fee.

I suggest making your own arrangements for KL. Do not rely on the organizer to do it for you.

Re: [hizamss] KL 2009 - Who has confirmed?
Greetings from KL Tower!!!

First and foremost, we wish to deeply apologize for the lack of updates on KL Tower International Jump 2009 (KLTIJ09). In order to make the event successful one, vital preparations must be arranged and set before the launch of the KLTIJ09 as we need to get consents from different parties to confirm on the venues, dates and times.

As approvals have been confirmed by local authorities and organizations, we are proud to inform you that Menara Kuala Lumpur will organize the internationally recognized extreme sport at some renowned towers in Malaysia for the ninth time. Starting from 4th until the 25th October 2009, first stop on the list for the BASE Jump will be held in Pahang Darul Makmur.

One of the attention-grabbing highlights during the event on the 28th – 29th October 2009, Menara Kuala Lumpur will be opened 24 hours, whereby 24 BASE jumpers will continuously jump for 2 consecutive days, day and night. The drive of the thrilling continuous jumps is to break the Guinness World Records. Another excitement to be added on the list this year would be the Night Jump, which will be publicized at 3 renowned towers in Malaysia; Menara Taming Sari, Menara Alor Setar and Menara Kuala Lumpur respectively.

International jumpers from all over the world will also be participating from countries such as UK, USA, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Turkey, Canada, Finland, Australia, Russia, India and Japan.

The objectives of the event are to promote and boost the tourism industry of the chosen states in Malaysia at the same time promoting BASE Jump locally and internationally.

The KL Tower International Jump Malaysia 2009 is scheduled to commence at Kompleks Teruntum, Pahang on the 4th October followed by Felda Residence Hotel, Kuala Terengganu; Menara Taming Sari, Malacca; Menara Alor Setar, Kedah; Menara Komtar, Penang and ends at Menara Kuala Lumpur on the 21nd – 25th October 2009.

Anyone who wishes to participate in the BASE Jump, here are the special rates and packages as follow:

Full Tour = RM 1,800.00 (inclusive of accommodations)
Join at Malacca, Kedah or Penang = RM 1,200.00 (inclusive of accommodations)

KL Tower only = RM 750.00 (NOT inclusive of accommodations)

Pacific Regency. It's at the base (Tongue) of the tower. Great breakfast and rooftop pool. Just paid 575 for 6 nights. /2= 287.50 is way cheaper than twin falls.

Re: [dmcoco84] KL 2009 - Probable Hotel
regular price. no discount there, or at least available online. I just booked it like any whuffo. They screwed people in '07 when two floors a/c went out. It was random.
Shortcut
Re: [nicrussell] KL 2009 - Probable Hotel
Pacific Regency Hotel is my preferred hotel when staying in KL. It is across the road from KL Tower.
The best prices I have currently seen on one online website, including all taxes, are:
US$77.65 per night Room only
US$88.30 per night including breakfast
To get these rates you need to fully pay for the hotel in advance.

During the 2007 event the Pacific Regency Hotel did have a major problem with its air conditioning which took out a few floors and they had to move many BASE jumpers to another hotel at the last minute.

There was also a major issue in 2006 (purely caused by Menara KL) where half the BASE jumpers had to be moved to another hotel at the last minute.

Last year Menara KL paid for accommodation at Hotel Istana for BASE jumpers that went on their tour. They did not organise accommodation at Pacific Regency because Menara KL and Pacific Regency have issues with each other. I am not sure what jumpers who stayed at Hotel Istana thought of it, I assume it was OK. Many BASE jumpers going to just the KL Tower event chose to stayed at Pacific Regency Hotel. At the time accommodation there could be obtained cheaper from some online websites than what Menara KL was offering at Hotel Istana.

Menara KL did advertise this year they would pay for accommodation at Istana Hotel for BASE jumpers that go on their tour and during their 24 hour event. I heard yesterday for the 24 hour event they have now changed that to Quality Hotel City Centre which is even further away. I assume that will be the same for the rest of their paid accommodation for the KL Tower event???

It would be a mistake to opt out if the breakfast. It is excellent w a wide variety of fresh fruits, carbs, and protiens. Very eclectic.
Shortcut
Re: [dmcoco84] KL 2009 - Probable Hotel
The latest update I got from Menara KL is that all jumpers will be staying at Quality Hotel City Center for the KL Tower part of the tour. It is further away from the KL Tower. Shuttle service is provided everyday to the Tower and back. No shuttle service if you stay at any other hotel.

According to them, this last minute change was due to cost. Its cheaper at Quality Hotel. I am not too sure about the "Quality" though Wink.

Like many of you already have mentioned, Pacific Regency is walking distance from the Tower. Another option is to check out Concord, KL, which is also close by to the tower.

Re: [dmcoco84] KL 2009 - Probable Hotel
The site I saw the prices on is:

http://www.agoda.com.au/asia/malaysia/kuala_lumpur/pacific_regency_hotel_suites.html

The initital rates they show on the site don't include taxes.
You may have to click on the link "Show all room types" to get the price that includes breakfast.

You can also select a number of different currencies that you will be charged in. Select your local currency to prevent exchange rate fees that may be charged by credit card companies.

I don't know how many rooms they will supply at the prices I preciously mentioned before the price goes up. It is often limited.

Re: [fastpete] KL 2009 - Who has confirmed?
Yes, those heights are for the exits points.

I got new updates from MKL today and the schedule provided by them is also inaccurate.

There will be only 3 days of jumping at KL Tower (23, 24, and 25th Oct). Apparently the CEO of MKL decided only 3 days of jumping Crazy.

20th is still briefing day and 21st and 22nd, jumping is at Damai wall (according to MKL).

On 25th, for those that are interested, some will be jumping off "shark fin building".

Anyways, nothing set on stone and things keep changing. Hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. Its monsoon season at this moment. Lots of rain.

Peace,

I received the itinerary for KL Tower International Jump 2009 this evening. The file is huge (3.2M after compression - 15 pages) and I can't upload as attachment. PM me your email address and I will email it to you.

Based on my Bushnell range finder and Suunto watch, height from the exit point to impact (aprox):

KL Tower - 915ft
Menara Alor Star - 315ft
Menara Taming Sari - 270ft
Damai Wall - 298ft

Have not jumped/measured height for the other objects listed in the KLTIJ 2009 schedule.
