who don't use tail gate on slider down roll over and why?

Re: [panavision] tail gate & unpacked
I only have 6 unpacked jumps
so my experience is minimal.

2 Smart TARDs - tailgate
2 Smart TARD Overs - tail gate
2 Roll Overs - NO tail gate

On a rollover the canopy is already
at line stretch hence the chances
of a lineover are slim to none.

Re: [GreenMachine] tail gate & unpacked
hmmm.... the canopy it at line stretch on exit, but it loops over in freefall. I would think that unpacked jumps (since most do not stow line, and are missing primary stow) the tailgate is MORE important.

Re: [Calvin19] tail gate & unpacked
So you recommend tailgate the
red lines, lower the canopy down,
and then jump over it like normal.

Hmm, don't see where it could hurt
but out at the Perrine I have seen
no one do that, hell some guys
thought I was anal for using the
tail pocket, etc. i.e. Smart TARD.

Re: [GreenMachine] tail gate & unpacked
I don't have any problem with people thinking I am anal. I have seen more than one dumbass spin into the water from the bridge from unpacked jumps with bow ties and line overs. (walked away of course)

I even use a tailgait for slider up rollovers and PG rollovers[modified 3-stage tailgate]

Re: [GreenMachine] tail gate & unpacked
I don't know the odds, but the moment you jump, the canopy begins to freefall. As it turns over, it falls tail first. It is under no tension. For this reason I personally us a tailgate.

Re: [hookitt] tail gate & unpacked
Cool, I'll try it at the end of May.

Re: [hookitt] tail gate & unpacked
I use one for every single unpacked jump. Just use 2 wraps instead of 3.

Re: [Spiderbaby] tail gate & unpacked
not really, it's just 3 seperate tailgates for the trailing edge of the canopy. 2 individual tailgates on the outside 25% of the brake lines (as cravats are almost always in that part of the canopy) and then everything held together by another tailgate, so the big one brakes, and the glider inflates center-out, then the wingtip gates brake once there is tension on all the lines.

The multiple tailgates make sense to
me and I said before that for super
sketchy jumps would people think

What are you referring to with "Cravats" ?

Per Wikipedia:

The cravat is a neckband, the forerunner
of the modern tailored necktie and bow tie.

Re: [GreenMachine] Multiple Tailgates and Cravats
I only use the multi-layed tailgate for paraglider jumps. for BASE I use 2-4 wraps of tape on needed lines.

cravats are in paragliding, pretty much the wingtip tangled into it's own lines.

Lineover is not the only mal possible with unpacked jumps. A guy from the Moscow crew 2 years ago did a rollover from a 116-meter {B}. He got a 180, hit the wall and scratched it all the way down to the ground. (Miraculously got away alive with no broken bones, only heavy bruises and cerebral concussion. Jumps in good health now). Experienced people said that not priming the tailgate may have been a contributing factor to the offheading - at linestretch the tail caught air first and the canopy started to inflate asymmetrically. I have nothing else to add as I have no unpacked experience and am not going to have one soon. But it would be interesting for me to read educated opinion on this.

Thanks.

Edited to add: Of course, I know that making a rollover from B. is a bad idea. My point is not about that.

Re: [Airgazm] Multiple Tailgates and Cravats
Personally, I don't use tailgates on rollovers or TARDs regardless of object. Only use a reefing system when TARDing my paraglider.

Re: [panavision] tail gate on slider down roll over
The way that I was shown to rig up a rollover has worked well for me.

I flaked out like normal, left the tailgate on and took my stow band from my tail pocket and put that around the tail gate Dacron. That way, the control lines are controlled, as is the tail.

So far, so good.

Re: [RoryJ] tail gate on slider down roll over
As it has been said, no matter how hard your push off, as soon as you leave your canopy falls as well. It looks like these pictures. AND there is a tailgate on the control lines. It's actually quite frightening.

Re: [scruff] tail gate on slider down roll over
thats exactly why I don't use a tail gate because when doing a roll over it allows the canopy to spread which seems like it has less tendacy to twist and turn as well as all lines go to the respective attachments with being attached to others.

Jarrett M...50 rollovers without tail gate... no problems...
