Any thoughts on "Palms Las Vegas/Grand Canyon" episode......Is BASE more important as a personal experience or is grandstanding for money and fame the goal? I obviously can't be sure, but I bet cameras and $ had something to do with opening a half second before impact. Now the whole world thinks we all act and think like that. I think media hype is going to make things much more difficult for all of us in the future. I prefer under the radar.

I'm guessing that this was a legal jump. If so what is the problem? Are you a dirty high puller, because it definitely didn't look like anybody was that low.

 

Oh right, thanks. I just watched the Palms Las Vegas episode and forgot about that other one. Yea that was some pretty retarded shit at the Grand Canyon.

He said he saw the shadow of the helicopter above him when he was flipping and thought it was the bike thats why he waited to pull. The he made the statement to the effect of "and then i remembered i still had to pull."

If you watch his helmet came you can see what he's talking about.

Seems like a waste of perfectly good motorcycles and I am not a real tree hugger but a slight environmental hazard as well. Or maybe I'm wrong and they spent days and weeks cleaning up bike parts and oil from the canyon floor. Seems like a goat ranch to me.

In one of older movies from pastrana, i think one from 2004 or 2005 he jumps from brento in italy and has a close call aswell, something about a gainer unintentionally ending up in 4 or 5 of them, low pull and tree landing Im not sure but I dont think he actually had any skidiving experience before taking up base... That guy really has 199 lives

I was able to go to the premier for the new Thrill Billies movie a couple months ago. I got to talk to him for a little while. So i asked how many skydives he had before he started BASE. It was 30 something. I think 36. He told me he wouldn't advise anyone to start BASE jumping with so little skydiving experience. I have a lot of respect for him though. A lot of people in his kind of position are real douches but he seems to be down to earth and is a pretty nice guy. My friend helps make the nitro circus shows so he hangs out with him all the time.

my thoughts? havent seen the jump, but heard about it.. sounds like a legal jump made to look illegal. been happening for years. FB perfected it.

under the radar is great. for illegal jumps in your ciiy, sensitive objects, yada yada yada...

getting paid is great too. if i could feed my family with legal jumps, from cool objects, i would . happily.

that show is awesome! as far as public opinion ive learned that it doesnt matter what they see, low pull, high pull we are always going to be seen as nut jobs to the masses. they have no idea what they're looking at anyways.
dont be a hater, travis isnt hurting the sport.

i use to get all hot and bothered by grand standing jumpers, but the longer im in the sport the more i see this stuff really doesnt matter. even the jeb empire state fiasco, which sent me on a ranting frenzy, created a new law against base jumping in nyc, but whats really changed? its not going to stop jumping or make us try harder to not get caught.
getting busted is getting busted.

i say fuck it! jump the world, get paid if you can or want to. or be a ghost and belly crawl 1000 meters to the object in the middle of no where and if you get busted take it like a man.
