Canopy damage - patch or tape?
Recently, while packing, my canopy (Troll 265 MDV) got caught on a stake used to secure the tarp we were packing on and caused a little tear/damage. The damage is on the top skin of the 2nd cell from the right. Attached is an image of the damage.

Is this serious enough to require patching or would nylon patching tape do the job? If so, where do I get nylon patching tape and if there is more than one kind, which should i get?

Thanks,

Brian

Re: [bdrake529] Canopy damage - patch or tape?
Hey whats up brian,
Im not a licensed rigger yet, but I don't think really requires much attention unless it gets a bit bigger. It looks like more of a surface abrasion, rather than cut all the way through. (from the picture it looks about an inch long, so my opinion is based solely on that)

Ask your local rigger for what to do, and for materials such as tape.

Re: [bdrake529] Canopy damage - patch or tape?
I just repaired something similar on my 285MDV with duct tape - haven't jumped it yet but I don't see it being a problem as its not near any line attachments or anything structural. I will put it in for a proper patch though..... one day :-)

Jeez, is that a hole in your canopy. I cannot tell.
Being a rigger myself, I would never repair any thing on the canopy with something adhesive unless it was a last chance to keep my BASE holiday in check. Trying to sew through material that keeps sticking to the foot of the sewing machine sux. In a later repair. I would just cut out all the sticky stuff and patch the outside of that. You have a broken stitch in that foto.
Why did that not concern you? So now that I have your attention, That is a lock stitch. Should be okay, but keep an eye on it. Do not put sticky things on your canopy unless it is the last resort to rescue your base trip.
Take care,

Mighty Mend-It should do the trick. See here: https://www.mightymendit.com/flare/next?tag=os|sm|go Wink
