Lowest you've freefell
fairly simple poll... Whats the lowest you have personally freefell over ground. If its really low we would be interested to hear about current setup of canopies, pilot chutes, etc.

I'm slowly working my way into the art of low freefalls and would like to see what has worked for others.

Forget going slow. Do a sub 200 FF, get lucky and live, get it out of your system, and never do it again! A one second hesi will kill you or worse. Think about your life, Is it worth it??? I got my 170' FF on Video. I can just push play and relive it over and over from the safety of my living room. That is good enough for me.
Good luck to ya.

Dirty Low
It's funny to me that 2 people claim
to have freefallin' from 150 feet or
lower but did not post anything.

In an old thread I saw a video of
Greeny freefalling I think from 143'
but
Jarrett please keep in mind he
has special gear and worked his
way down there s l o w l y.

Re: [GreenMachine] Dirty Low
What in the world is he using for special gear?

Below 250 feet is experimental altitude. If anything goes wrong at all, you will soon be hauled off in a bodybag.

after 57 votes, but only 2 3 responses, it looks like:

1) you should have asked what's the lowest someone has freefalled, and plan on repeating it.

2) people have no desire to post their specialized techniques on the public forum. probably a good idea to limit it to face-to-face or PM's.

3) if you are NOT getting any PM's, that should be a sign that you are on your own. be careful. (and so much will depend on weight, altitude, air pressure, canopy design, canopy size, pc, age of equipment, etc. only you can understand how your kit opens.)

personally, I'd suggest just repeatably jumping off a safe object. take video. find out the setup that opens fastest for you. estimate the height you are willing to lose and go from there.

you don't simply wish to read a few things here and go exit a 160' object, do you?

Re: [GreenMachine] Dirty Low
I know the span you are refering to.......you are correct, I've lasered it myself and 143 is spot on. Never had the nuts to even be pca'ed or sl it. Very, very fucking low w/ decent landing area depending on the tide and what it has washed in. Her sister just south is very nice, much higher, have 73 FF off it.

460: I was told he had a vented Fox with shorten lines for dirty low shit like this. Also his PC toss technique was quite "different" than normal.

Oh, BTW, for me only 210 for lowest, it was an E and that damm talus came up fast.

Re: [packing_jarrett] Lowest you've freefell
took a flik242 w/valves and a 48"zp off a ~160'E over water, got canopy about 20'. took a rockdragon260 48"zp off a ~190'A got canopy about 40-50' AGL. Both hand held, both ridiculously scary. posted video of the 190A on this site.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But I will repeat both jumps. it's REALLY FUCKING SCARY.... and isn't that one of the reasons we jump? like that gun's and roses song says: I used to do a little but the little wouldn't do it so the little got more and more. just sub lower for little. I think that song is about a heroin addiction that kills the user, seems to fitWink

again. I don't recommend it. a slight hesitation that is completely out of your control will kill you

Re: [dride] Dirty Low
Yeah man, I agree, at 143' feet I'd
be thinking let's do a Smart TARD Wink

My lowest jump so far was a solo day
blaze S/L from 190 feet antenna with
a short ass canopy ride.

Guns & Roses song is: Mr. Brownstone
I thought of using it in a video one day.

Re: [dride] Dirty Low
yes, PC toss methods are very important. As well as the type of tapes used in its construction. The appreciation by jumpers of the importance of the methodology of the PC toss only became appreciated around the year 2000. Just curious though, why would shorter lines noticably improve the opening speed? BTW, what brake settings does he use. Dwayne Weston used to do super low jumps with shallow brakes and he wouldn't even release his toggles. He would control his canopy by grabbing the lines above the toggles.

thanks

Re: [460] Dirty Low
Don't know the specifics of the shorter lines or his brake settings. Also, not sure if he posts on here or how to get ahold of him. Maybe someone can chime in with contact. Have jumped with him before and he is definitly into low shit.

To the OP, I agree what everyone is saying, take your time, work your way down, and talk to as many people (in person not on this silly forum) who are into the low stuff......it's a whole different game.

"art of low freefalls". You said it and now you own the phrase. Be careful man, most folks don't vote the higher fall category for a reason.

230' crane, and I delayed a bit for snatch. Id do it again, but its low.

3 from 220ft E - Running exit
4 from 240ft Crane - 2 go and throws, 2 1-second delays

Fox 285 Vtec, Perigee Pro
Hand Held, 48" ZP - Pink Tongue

I felt that the PC inflated and extracted the canopy more quickly on the 1-second delays due to the snatch force, and I found myself at roughly the same opening height as I did with the go and throws.

Here's a pic of my second jump from the E:

Well put wwarped

460 I found that number, will pm to you, and thanks for the Dwayne info, that's a really good idea for low stuff where you don't have objects to worry about flying into during opening.

Can't remember the name of the last poster, but the guy that put up the picture of the cliff jump with the pink PC. Awesome picture, thanks. I fucking love BASE

5 from a 160ft bridge over hard earth.

20+ from a 187ft bridge over sand

70+ from a 220ft cliff.

No injuries - but also no desire to do 160ft ever again.

Correct techniques should be learned from another experienced jumper in person and not from an online description.

Re: [JesseP] Lowest you've freefell
I've done 1 from a 220' free stander just a few weeks ago. But at 34 jumps total I was not the first and I was with the 2 guys who had done it before. I'm sure I will do it again mabee even a bit lower but I will not make a habit out sub 200'. Insidently my very next jump (the same night) I had a 160 off heading.Crazy
As far as the shorter line mentioned, wouldn't getting to line stretch quicker start inflation quicker?

Is there any way to change my vote. I did a 228' A last week.Cool The opening felt much higher than I expected.
