Packing Table
Have any of you ever built a packing table?

If so please share with me your insights Smile

My current thoughts:

I would love to have a table long enough to
accommodate the rig, lines, and canopy but
that is around 20 feet for my 285, and it
would take up half of my garage/loft.

So my plan now is to build a stout table that
is 8 feet x 8 feet, cover it in carpet, build in
shelves underneath it, and put the legs on
coasters so I can move it around.

Re: [GreenMachine] Packing Table
I always get a sore back from packing, so it seems like a good idea. However, I wouldn't want the table to be shorter than the lines.

Re: [GreenMachine] Packing Table
I have used one that is 3 folding tables put end to end. I really liked it. I would keep it narrow (4') and have access to both sides. Don't forget the stripper pole at the end. They make a good anchor!

Re: [Treejumps] Packing Table
The other day I re-assembled my G4
after washing it, packed the reserve,
pack the main, and packed my Troll.

Just seemed that a table would make
all of those tasks easier and provide
me with a nice place to store excess
gear, spare parts, etc.

Re: [GreenMachine] Packing Table
my master rigger friend (who by the way invented the shrivel flap with Phil Smith, BASE 1) packs rounds and squares on his packing table in his loft. He has bad knees and doesn't like crawling around on the floor. His table works very well. It just takes a little practice getting used to it. Especially since things tend to slide around a bit on a slick table, so packing weights are almost mandatory.

That's awesome Tree. True at the Perrine, but if I'm goin in under a mal I would like to think I gave it my best packjob and that this , and only death, wasn't because I was too fuckin lazy! Hah! But, at the Perrine, do a four line, wipe bumm with zero p and stuff it in!

Re: [base386] Packing Table
Perris's Al Frisby, and a few other ol'time riggers, packed squares on regular sized round packing tables since the 1970s. I picked up how to do it in the 1980s and there's nothing to it once you know how.

It's just another technique to the same end result . . .

Not that a canopy can't easily be packed to "just open", but I'd offer up to those who think that trash packing is a great idea because It's Just The Perrine that six seconds might not be the eternity you think it is.

...as someone with first hand experience of said "eternity", right?
