Taking Chance
Hey everyone,

those of you who know me also know that I did a tour in Iraq in 2004. While on that tour one of my Marines (PFC Chance Phelps) was killed right next to me in a pretty nasty ambush in Al Anbar.

The Marine that escorted his body back home wrote a very thought-provoking piece about the experience that has circulated throughout the Marine corps and the country in general.

HBO decided to make a movie about this Marine and the experience. The movie premieres on HBO tomorrow night.

So, for anyone interested here's a link to check out. This was MY Marine that died so it's obviously very important to me.

Thanks,
Chad

Thanks for sharing Chad, it is an honor to send the link to all my internet associates and friends, in order to post the link and spread the word.

As the mother of a Army soldier, as an American, I say thank you for your service to this nation.

Is there a way to watch it from outside the US (online-stream etc.)?

Re: [DexterBase] Taking Chance
Chad,

As a Soldier that has seen [way to many] deaths in my own unit since I have been there over the years, I know the pain. Each and every death brings a tear, but none is exactly like the other. Each brings its own specific emotions, and feelings like anger and sadness. Watching this trailer evokes those emotions; I will find a way to watch this video; can anyone record and share?

BASE is not unlike a distant cousin of the Brotherhood that those in the military share. It reminds me of the following quote:
In reply to:
"You have never lived until you have almost died. For those who fight for it, life has a flavor the protected will never know." that quote was Written on the wall of Hoa Lo Prison; The "Hanoi Hilton".

Chad, again thanks for what you have done, and as Cynthia said, thanks for sharing.

Did you get to see the whole film?

Or just the trailer?

I am definitely seeing it.

Re: [GreenMachine] Taking Chance
Yes I viewed the movie in full. It was very accurate; I say this as I have delt with Casualty Affairs way to many times and know the process oh to well. I feel there were more tear jerking parts in the begginning and middle, though the ending was handled very well also.

Hopefully it will open a few eyes to the sad but respectful process of bringing a Fallen Soldier home. Hopefully it will share that a Fallen Soldier is treated with dignity and respect all the way home. Hopefully we don't have to bring anyone else home, but...

At the end of the movie, HBO said they would be adding it to their "on demand" programming very soon.

Cool, thanks for the 411.

I worked with a guy who used
to be in the Honor Guard and
his stories were interesting.

Lastly, thank you to all of the
guys and gals on this forum who
have ever been in the service.
