What does your BASE # mean to you?
Hey Guys & Girls Whatsup?

I just received my BASE # 1297 and was wondering if anyone else has a really cool number that means something to them.
My # looks random and I know you cannot "Choose" your number but for me I got the coolest number ever.

1 29 7
1 = well we are in the thousands now so I can't help that one.
29= the number of jumps I have.
7 = number of objects I have.

A very sweet coincidence for me.

Cool!

I never sent in for mine.

Need I remind everyone that stupiddave has his (I blame Karnowski).

Sorta minimizes the coolness of it.

But anyway...

1 - 1
2 - comes after 1
3 - comes after 2
2 - comes before 3

The little note Rick sends along with the card was the coolest part for me.

Re: [mfob] What does your BASE # mean to you?
Yesterday was weirder than normal. I worked on my taxes and I looked up what my stimulus package was last year. It was $460 dollars. And then I left to get in my car, and the mileage on the trip meter was 460 miles. I stopped at the convenience store and the price was $4.60. Gosh, BASE numbers are weird.

My number is 853. Believe it or not at exactly 8:53 this morning, I was picking my nose and found a huge difficult-to-remove wufflenut!

On a more serious note, I value my BASE number, but it does not define who I am in the BASE world. It took me an extra 18 months before I got around to submitting my paperwork to Rick and Joy.

It could be argued that 11:59 is the last minute on the clock...but I won't start that argument.

I held out for two years to try to get #666, and missed it by a cunt hair. TO the fortunate bastard that got it, good on ya. Hope you're not catholic mate.

You ARE gonna write me, right?

Dare ya!

Hello BASE Jumpers:

Rick and I issue the original World BASE Numbers and Night BASE Numbers which were started by Carl and Jean Boenish in January 1981 when the first BASE # was earned. Carl always believed that BASE jumping would catch on, and he was right. Your BASE number is your link back to the beginning of our sport.

To apply for a BASE Number, we need the following information:

1. Name and address, or a self addressed envelope. Phone number is optional.

2. Name and/or location and altitude of each of the four objects.

3. Date of each object, especially the date and TIME of your qualifying jump. The time of your qualifying jump is important in case someone else in the world qualified on the same date.

4. Any descriptions of the jumps or jump stories will be appreciated and will remain strictly confidential.

5. On the subject of donations, we ask for $10 to issue a number to help cover our costs for postage and supplies, totally voluntary. If you want the plastic card with your number and qualifying date and Carl Boenish's signature embossed, there is a $5 fee.

In respect for the privacy of individuals and integrity of the BASE Numbers, we will not be issuing them by email. Our original BASE Constitution requires confidentiality. We will take the information about your jumps by email and lock in your qualifying date until we receive your letter.

We wait thirty days to issue your number to make sure the rest of the worlds mail has time to get here.

KEEP HAVING FUN, ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL!!!

1185. Just happens to be etched in the concrete outside my front door. Weird.

And I agree. The note from Rick is the best part. Handwritten/customized to you. My last name is Smith. Base #1 is Phil Smith. Link to the past. Groovy.

Re: [78RATS] What does your BASE # mean to you?
Thanks for the endorsement for my "cryptic" notes. Glad you could read it. I had a guy a couple years ago asked Joy if Rick wrote with his feet. My handwriting has always been horrible, sort of depends on the "state of mind" Im in at the time. I am really gratified that new BASE jumpers like the notes I write. I do read every letter twice since I know that getting BASE is a personal event for everyone. On my writing, I feel sorry for the foreign jumpers like Russia, Ukraine, UAR, Malaysia, S. America etc. for trying to read my terrible handwritten notes. I use one ceremonial pen with the USBA label to write every note just cause I'm also a softie for tradition. These numbers do connect you all to the start of BASE as a sport. when Smitty earned #1 off a 1000' building in Houston in 1981. Carl was a super nice guy with a vision that is coming true. The whole world is jumpable. You mentioned Phil Smith, Smitty, BASE 1 as a connection to the history of the sport. Well, Smitty is a guy you can be proud of to be BASE 1. He is a real stand up guy and will always be a respected friend of mine. We jumped a lot together from 82-87. He quit since he had 2 daughters to raise by himself and back in the 80's, it just wasn't quite as safe. Joy and I still love all the young adrenalin we read in the letters' I still see it when I do my occasional jump with some folks passing through. To this day there is no sport I know that gives us as much of a rush as when we say 3,2,1 cya. Isn't BASE great. Thanks for the support and as they say on TV, keep those cards and letters coming in. Boenish has to be smiling seeing how his vision of BASE has come true.

Re: [savagesac] What does your BASE # mean to you?
I am just happy that I recieved my # 1060 from one of my best friends. I have had the pleasure of jumping with Rick several times... (many more to comeWink) hanging with Joy, and have shared many cool moments with them both. We should all be very honored that we have such loyal people carrying on the tradition.

Love you guys!!!
