Hi,

I am planning a trip to the US and consider visiting TF. This will be late May or early June and I have a few questions.

Is Boise the closest airport?
Do I need a rental car, or will public transportation do?
What should I expect to pay for accommodation and what places would you recommend to stay?

Any input is appreciated.

There is an airport in Twin, you will most likely need a rental, as there is no mass transit (that I know of). You can also fly into Boise (about an hour and a half north) or Salt Lake City (about 2 hours south). Serena's hostile is quite affordable ($10 a night last I heard), and also has an indoor packing area. You can also stay at numerous hotel/motels ranging anywhere from $40 a night up to over $100 a night. Have fun.

you dont need a car, you can take a taxi from the airport, and catch rides with other jumpers, but having a car sure is nice

From what airport, It would cost 200 bones or more to take a taxi from Boise or Salt Lake. Thats a really silly idea...unless your very wealthy. Ask around for other jumpers that are going. Maybe for a small price and depending when youll be here Ill give you a ride, for some sort of compensation.

Yeah...if you come through Boise, hit me up. When the season gets going, I make the drive at least every other weekend.

We're getting ready to deploy though, so this year's hit and miss. Just give me a couple weeks warning.

Thanks everyone. I take it this is a fairly good time of the year to go with regards to the weather!? I'll definitely PM you (MFOB and Para_Frog) when I know my final itinerary. I'm planning to stay for two or three days, and I suppose the weekends are best if I want to hook up with fellow jumpers.

Weather is probably hit and miss this time of year. It will most likely be cold, though.

I doubt it would be good for business... unless you are part of the black leather & whip crowd. as I've never been to the facility, does Serena like being called "Mistress?"

this Floridian froze his ass off on my 1st visit!

During the packing portion of the FJC I was
shivering and eventually had to borrow clothes
from a few people.

I'm Norwegian so I have plenty of warm clothing. Good tip though. I was expecting summer. I suppose we're not talking cold as in ice and snow?!

No sir, no ice or snow, but where I live in
Florida during May we have a high of 79
and we are sea level.

As for Twin Falls, Idaho:

Field Elevation: 4,150 feet / 1265 meters

Per Weather Underground Today is:
High of 42 F
Low of 24 F

The Temperatures for May are:
High of around 60 F
Low of around 40 F

Id actually go from an avg high of 70 to an avg low of 45. But I only live in Idaho so I think 70 or even 60 is like summer to me.

I've lived in Denver my whole life, about a month ago the low was something like -18. It gets frigid, but then again we had multiple days in January and February where it broke 70's. I'm pretty sure we were warmer than Florida a few times. It will vary by a good 40 degrees in 24 hours, often. It's gonna be in the 60's this weekend.
