Re: [joman] How low would you free fall a nonvented canopy
For starters, if you use a vented canopy as an excuse to jump lower objects than normal, your probably not going to have a lasting life in the sport, but I have taken my flik vtec 220 from a 130' man lift exit height was about 120', spent about 2-4 seconds under canopy with time to get in a full flare 2 out of three times. I also jumped a 142' mono-pole recently. I saw a freefall from 190' ft A and a buddy of mine free fell a 180' mono recently. Also me and another chap freefell the cliff pictured to the left, 308' total, but the ledges (2) start at 160 and they were way to close on opening. Hope this helps!

Blush thanks Chris My comments didnt make it in sorry about that my bad. I recently jumped 194' from an S. I had enough time to get a good flare with some time to spare but not much. I used an Ace 260 in an Odyssey FX (2 pin rig) not sure im ready to go lower. However I am currious as to how low some of the low pullers out there have gone from with a nonvented canopy. Thanx for the input.

What's the fascination with low freefalls with unvented canopies? Why not sell the Ace and get a Blackjack if this is whats turning your crank?

I did a free fall B from 160' with a 52' PC quite a while back. (1994) I would not do this now, I've learned better. Kind of got a flare out of it, but it wasn't pretty. I limped away and drank heavily for the rest of the evening. I don't really see a need to jumps that low. It was pretty stupid. BE CAREFUL!

I took a dagger 222 off a 180' E, 4 years ago. 42" PC. plenty of time to pop toggles, turn right, pick up speed, flare. landing was water (190'), impact jagged rocks(180').

for me personally it was a 220ft freestander with a raven and 46'' pc. Raven worked fine but I then jumped a vented canopy and noticed a huge difference!

Re: [joman] How low would you free fall a nonvented canopy
About a year ago I took my raven off a 360' A, 2.5sec delay, it opened on heading around 200' where it promptly collapsed completely and put me back in free fall. I was then open again around 130-140' where it jellyfished all the way to the ground. could have something to do with the multiple 1-2inch holes in top and bottom skins....

other than that, i FF'd a valved flik 242 from jinx near the perrine boat launch, something like 160' I think. That was a solid opening about 20' above the water.

valves are cool

vented canopies don't always open better or faster than non-vented. The actual design is more important than vents...

I agree, bottom skin inflation which happens first should be the same with a vented or no-vented canopy. It's the pressurization time that is the difference.
