Solo Base Jumping
I'm more of a social jumper, so most of my jumps are with other jumpers (ok, all of them but one...) because I like sharing the whole experience.

Just out of curiosity, what percentage of your jumps are solo?

Re: [SpeedPhreak] Solo Base Jumping
Don't do a lot of solos, but they are something that every jumper should do at least once... and from time to time, it really drives home the "why are you doing this" feeling

30 percent at this point.

To: SpeedPhreak Re: Solo Base Jumping
Jumps: 3 out of 39 or ~8%

Objects: 3 out of 8 or ~38%

I definitely prefer jumping with friends
for extra fun & extra safety but there
are times when I just want to jump!

Solo in the true sense of being the only person around with no GC?

Just one. And it made a typically less stressful object very stressful.

1 of 17 for me. Other than my first A after getting back from the potatoe it was by far the best. Nice urban A, halloween night just before midnight, watchin all the dressed up drunks go in and out of the bar, cool crisp clear night, no GC, cops drivin around looking for the normal pranks and poision candy.

Yeah thats why this stuff is great

Re: [SpeedPhreak] Solo Base Jumping
Half. My buddies have frequent changes of mind...

Recent Example:

One had an early flight and one climbed down. Which for a first-timer on this object, under these particular conditions, was the right choice. (although any climb down is the right choice IMHO)

Turn up the volume

Edit: I always have at the very least - my wife as GC. So maybe not PURE solo

2 of my solos are on a 1700 foot A. Thats a lot of time to psych yourself out, especially when gearing up on top.

Re: [hjumper33] Solo Base Jumping
I have always enjoyed my solos. THey always bring a whole new element to the jump. I would guess I have around 10 100% solos and about 15 to 20 GC or cell GC. The rest is with people around. With my favorite solos from Jamie Boutwells ( spelling ) B qualifying object. Those who know can appreciate that one.

Re: [Bryguy1224] Solo Base Jumping
I got to thinking about this after I did my first "solo".

I researched, located, and jumped a tower by myself with no input from anybody else.

Now, I had my GF at the bottom taking pictures and when I posted them someone posed the question of: if you have someone taking pictures, is it a solo?

I consider it one because I did everything myself. It was just another one of those little milestones you pass in BASE like your first freefall, first stowed, first slider up, etc...

you did a good job mate, but still to twist your bridal arround the rail like that is bad,to make sure your bridal is ok,you shouls first sfold it,then do the twists..
Besides that it were great fun watching your vid pissing your own pants. Now wait for thick fog then do it all over again..

Re: [Andy_Copland] Solo Base Jumping
Not much being said about the negative aspect of soloing although if you do a search I'm sure you will find Fabers story regards being stuck on his own with an injury...

Anyway, I had a real bad experience with a solo. Was doing them quite often last summer and finally one of them went wrong big time.

I walked away (kinda)!

They're great and fufilling if they go ok but if they go wrong then you could be stranded, hung up, unconcious, injured etc. etc with no help.

Each to their own though...

Re: [Parky1] Solo Base Jumping
Faber is just fucking with me, the two left straps are actually an anchor thats tied with a larks head onto the steel. The bridle is on the right and going over the bar and S/L'd to the loop in the anchor. So no wraps although i did have lots of comments from the video. Must admit it does look dodgy though if you dont realise its an anchor point.

I still think you should have taken a page outta Fabers book on that solo and kept me on speaker phone while you jumped. More entertaining for both of us that way Wink
