Portland mentor/teacher?
Yes this is an "I want to be a basejumper" post. I have 330 skydives but admit I havnt made a jump in the last couple years, I plan on getting current this spring. About 2 or 3 years back I went out to the A with a few of the locals and watched but never followed up. Ive done research, read almost every article on this site, now Im just trying to take the next step. If anyone knows of anyone that would want to teach, let me come out and watch again or whatever I would greatly appreciate a contact. I dont expect a free ride either. BASE has been on my mind nonstop. Thanks. Matt, Portland NW

Why don't you talk to those locals you went out with?

Re: [mattz] Portland mentor/teacher?
why are you posting here when theres a dozen of us in the portland crew you could have contacted?

get current, really current and make your face known and see what happens. if your serious a fjc is never a bad thing, youll still need locals to further your jumping and knowledge but at least you got the basics that way. im not sure anyone will want to teach someone from the ground up especially not knowing you. contact tom a, or miles d, and see when their next coarse is.
p.s. pm me who you are. where you skydived at ext...

Is this such a bad medium to use?

never said it was bad. just asked why he didnt just give one of us a call instead.
now that you mention it though, trying to find a mentor on line doesnt show much effort imo.

Yes, it is. I don't get it. What ever happened to the days of asking around at your local dz (or any near by), showing your face, maning the fuck up, growing some hairy balls, and going about this without using the goddamm internet. I realize it is a valuable resource but I'm so tired of reading(maybe I should stop then?) about "I wanna be a BASEhopper cause I saw it on youtube and I've read everything there is to know about it" bullshit.

To the OP, show some fucking nuts dude and get in with the local crew. The one guy that posted from the local hit is spot on........why post something on this duchebag site when there are real people going at it in your area?

The newer generation of this beatiful sport are fucking lazy asshole that want to be fed with a gold plated spoon. Step away from the computer screen, get off you fat ass, AND MAKE A FUCKING EFFORT!!!
