Re: [wwarped] What's your favorite part of the jump?
I voted for "hanging out at the top" because it's the closest, but what I'm really looking for is an option that says, "the people".
The more I jump, the more I realize there's only so much you can sanely do, unless you really commit yourself to this activity. Except for short spurts of inspiration, I've never really been someone who commits myself whole-heartedly to any activity, and that's left me wondering where I'm going with BASE jumping.
At the end of the day, I think the answer is that I enjoy the limited number of things that my commitment level does allow me to do, and I particularly enjoy the time with friends--not just at the top, but on the hike up, chatting on line, and so on.
I recently went on a short road trip with my brother--12 hours each way--to take a look at some bridges up north. The temperature was -40, which isn't too cold to jump, really, but it does seriously complicate rescue, so we decided not to jump either of the bridges we looked at. I enjoyed the trip immensely, though, just for the time spent chatting in the car, and for the shared experience of checking out some new objects.
