Just curious, is there a web-based tool that I can use to keep track of the game? Or is part of the challenge based on remembering all the moves and visualizing the whole thing in your head?

Re: [Ghetto] Chess Game Anyone?
Playing without a board is called "Blindfold Chess"
but I have never been able to play a whole game
like that, even when I was playing regularly.

As for an online tool, I am sure there is something
but I just use the chess game that came with my
MAC and set it to "Human vs. Human" and save
the game after each move.
Shortcut
Re: [GreenMachine] Chess Game Anyone?
Hmm. I don't have chess on here, so I'll just play blindfolded for as long as I can and then figure something else out if you actually survive long enough to get me confused Wink

Are you really playing this game without a board?
AKA Blindfold? If so cool, because we may have
found our first BASE jumping Bobby Fischer Wink

FYI - I am using a board to track my moves
but I am NOT using any help whatsoever.

I'm just using the wikipedia board in my mind, and re-enacting all the moves for each turn, I'm too lazy to download any chess games. And, of course, no help, just what my grandpa taught me when I was a wee tot. Wink

I don't know who Bobby Fischer is, but I'm pretty sure that a new Bobby Fischer I am not...

Do you have a MAC? If so do you know
how to capture a screen shot? Because
I could attach an image after each move
to make it easier on you and eventually
re-doing every move will end up taking
a very long time.

RE: Bobby Fischer, just think of him as
the Dwayne Weston of the Chess World.
He had an IQ of 175 and once played 20
games simultaneously for a demo where
each of his opponents sat at a board and
he just called out moves blindfold style.

In this move I am using check to force
you to trade my bishop for your rook.

Once a player has a material advantage
it is advantageous to trade pieces cause
the extra material becomes more of an
advantage as the board gets thin.

Ghetto wrote:

Ha ha, that was good man, I liked it, thanks Cool

In all fairness, I have studied the game
and have had lots of practice, back when
I was getting my bachelor's I used to run
a bar and had 2 chess sets there and would
play two opponents while bartending.

Deal was if a customer beat me he or she
would get a free drink, in almost 4 years I
gave away maybe a dozen freebies.

Of course being mostly sober usually gave
me a solid advantage over them Wink
Shortcut
Re: [GreenMachine] Your Move Player
Yea, I understand the material advantage thing.. Rooks are better than bishops anyway so it was a good trade for you.

My plan was to not lose that first bishop because I was going to put you in check and keep you there till the game was over, and have that bishop there to help. But your Horsey Hiding in Plain Sight (HHiPS) would have come galloping in to save your bacon (moves were Qb6, Rd2, a few moves ago).

I actually predicted your past 5 or 6 move sequence (except the bishop capture), but I just thought I'd beat you to checkmate. But that horsey.

I had planned on you moving that pawn to g3 to block my bishop but I was willing to do it and even lose my bishop so I could open up h3 for my other bishop to restrict your king's movements, because I would have had you mated in several moves.

But that damn horsey.

OK my move is obviously Kxg6, and I'm assuming yours is Qxd8, leaving me with only a Queen, a Bishop, and four pawns versus the army at your command.

But the irony is, it's amazing what you can do with two well-placed pieces, even against such insurmountable odds...

Qe2+.

Good game.. I had no idea it would go on this long when we started, and didn't even expect to win. The last time I remember playing chess was in 8th grade with my Grandpa, and he kicked my ass every time.

This snail's-pace forum format makes for an interesting game though, since every move can be well thought out.

My move #28 (post #75 in this thread, though also correct on your attached word doc), the move right before you suicided your queen, was Bh3, but you seem to have moved it to Bf3 on your board. In fact that seems wierd, since if it actually had been on f3 you would not have been forced to lose your queen like that.

Checkmate stands...
