Re: [BASEMenace2] Iraq BASE
Your kidding right. I saw some great objects when I was over there, but never in my right mind would I risk jumping in that country. You risk being shot by, the Iraqi Army, Iraqi police, locals, insurgents, and US military not knowing that you are a friendly. There are definetly some jumpable buildings just outside of Sadr City too, but again not worth it. It makes jumping at home all that much better.

Re: [BASEMenace2] Iraq BASE
Getting off the FOB for a side trip will be a bitch unless you have a cool PL/PSG, but if you're creative enough, and your guys are watertight, there ARE several objects.

Rumor has it it's been done. Just plan plan plan. And make sure no one records it.

We've been sourced, but no destination. Stay in touch - I'm bringing a ratty throw-down rig.

Don't listen to those pilot types - they live in condos and sip chai all day from what I hear. Laugh

Don't do anything stupid buddy, I would much rather meet you in The Valley in a few months than an Iraq Jail...or the brig! But if you really want I will mail your rig to ya via UPS!Wink

Re: Iraq BASE
Hahaha. I'm leaving in a couple weeks, you saying I should bring a rig?

I'm the pl too so he won't be a problem Wink

Re: [Para_Frog] Iraq BASE
Haha,

What I wouldnt give to have my degree and brass!!!
There is a healthy selection of objects off of MSR Tampa, north of the capital. Just dont Try to jump anything on the FOB, you certainly will be shot.

I would ask about taking a picture? On a serious note, I would be very tempted too.you can always rename the file and send it off to another email then get rid of it??? Iraqs first BASE is something I would certainly want to hear about when it happens. So if any of you goons nab a jump over there, I would appreciate a PM, as a momentous occasion.

Cheers,
Jeff

Re: [BASEMenace2] Iraq BASE
I have been in Iraq for two years and never herd of someone jumping but if they have they would keep that to them selfs I'm sure. There some things that could be jumped on the base I'm on but good luck pulling that off. Hell how many jumper are out here I only know of two and one is me and I'm still to green to pull some of the stuff out here off. If there is any other jumpers out here and your at Al Asad let me know and we can drink fake beer and bullshit.

Re: [BASEMenace2] Iraq BASE
theres a nice hotel in the green zone if you dare... but you most possibly would get shot

yes it might have been done, but there is a reason its not posted

take my advice, you could do it. but at your experiance level, DONT DO IT. RISK NOT WORTH REWARD.

call me from the MWR tent

PS. BASE in Asscrackistan is much easier...

Re: [leroydb] Iraq BASE
It sounds like there's a shit load of base jumpers over here right now. There's another guy in the IZ right now that I have been pming with, that hasn't commented on this thread yet.

There's a 180-200 ft free stander inside the wire in TQ (out toward al asad), there's a 300-350 ft guyed tower I saw near camp Taji (northwest Baghdad) that I'm pretty sure was inside the wire, and there's a 250-300ft guyed tower just outside the wire where I'm at now (victory/liberty).

I was doing convoy security out of TQ for the first 2 months, but I'm working at an ECP now doing pac search of all the walk on local nationals, learning a bunch of Arabic and making friends with the locals. I was thinking if I could convince the NCOIC for our ECP, I could probably just walk out, and walk down to the antenna on a no wind midweek night and then parachute into the base...hehe. Like a few of you were saying though, who knows who might shoot you if they saw you(though everything is so strict about firing your weapons over here, most people are afraid to shoot people they are supposed to shoot, so I doubt a soldier shooting you is very likely).

Not sure if they scan that low, but the mortor security measures might pick you up and take you out, too.

300ft freestander in the iz think the US turned over that fob to the iraq army since i was there though. walked past it everyday before my base days

Re: [d_goldsmith] Iraq BASE
Dood...by the time counter-battery responded, you'd be rubbing one out in the shitter.

Unit clearance reporting time is one minute. And that's BEFORE they start shooting.

You'd be long gone.

In reply to:
on a no wind midweek night

So you prefer no winds on guyed antennas?

I get the impression a lot of people prefer no wind or very light winds on antennas (guyed and freestanding). This is strange. comments anyone?

Re: [980] Iraq BASE
I was taught: slight tail wind is idea for antennas.
Shortcut
Re: [980] Iraq BASE
personally, i'm a little creeped out when there's no wind on an A... sometimes i even make someone PCA me. haha.

[annoying buzzer sound]wrong[/annoying buzzer sound]

or maybe right for a terminal A

I would argue that ideal winds on an antenna are this:
(these winds at deployment altitude)
-higher than your forward speed in the deep brake setting with the brakes set
-lower than your forward speed in full flight
-straight down the middle between two guywires, or the best compromise between object avoidance and landing setup on a freestander
*all the above subject to landing area and turbulence generators*

More comments?

Re: [980] Iraq BASE
The reason I said no-wind is because the wind never seems to come out of the north around here and I want to land in the base. Antenna is north of the wall.

Edited to add: vectors for this guyed A are due south, northwest and northeast.

Re: [freedomed] Iraq BASE
Nope, the tower is still in U.S of A territory. The tower you speak of is a 340ish footer and theirs also a B in the pink zone aka IZ. mister give me dollar!

Re: [BASEMenace2] Iraq BASE
There is a series of VERY jumpable smokestacks on the FOB at Ishkandaria. Stairs all the way to the top. Very nice landing areas.

We got chewed up pretty bad the week I was there and I had no rig.

Otherwise... easy.

Re: [DexterBase] Iraq BASE
Damn, that's only 30 miles away, but the odds of me ever getting to go down there are pretty slim.
