How many BASE jumps do you have?
The thread regarding the KL Tower event
and different jump number requirements
made me wonder about the quantity of
jumpers with various experience levels.

Re: [GreenMachine] How many BASE jumps do you have?
100-999 is a incredibly significant gap in time in sport and skill level. I am far better now than when I had 100 jumps.

i think i have somewhere around 600 base jumps and have only attended 3 organized events: bridge days in west virginia. no perrine or moab and almost no legal jumps.

Yeah man that totally makes sense.
I think back to the dumb shit I did
skydiving after hitting 100 jumpsCrazy

hopefully you stay on track with your other chess game... be careful in thereShocked

So ya... I'd have broken the poll down in the 100-999 area at least..

maybe 100-250-400-etc...

thats just me, ....grain of salt..etc..

Re: [leroydb] How many BASE jumps do you have?
Yeah, but it's not as simple as that.

50 jumps over 20 objects IMHO is more experience than 100 jumps over only 3 or 4... but the latter individual may have a better basis for starting out on aerials, if that's the way they want to go. I don't believe that one can write down a simple set of rules.
Shortcut
Re: [Pendragon] BASE experience
Yeah, there are different types and
each may or may not better prepare
one for certain things.

100 slider-up, legal, day light jumps
are not the same as 50 low bandit
jumps from a variety of objects...

But the former is better for aerials
while the latter is better for object
evaluation.

Actually the purpose of my poll was
simply to get an idea of the levels
of experience as in if one were to
host a BASE event could they say
"only people 1,000+ BASE jumps"?

Well sure, but 4 or 5 jumpers is not
really an event, more like a demo.

Re: [GreenMachine] BASE experience
one will become a master of subterfuge and learn great criminal skills and certain conservative base skills by doing bandit jumps at night. such a jumper is careful but will never become a great base athlete, like weston.

Re: [GreenMachine] How many BASE jumps do you have?
So this makes a bar graph based on exponential growth categories (10^<1, 10^<2, 10^<3...)

Not exactly the best representation of stats for base jump numbers. How about starting a new poll Tom?

There's notably more people in four digits than that. On this thread http://www.basejumper.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2884161; there's over 30 people listed and surely there are other as well. I'd estimate maybe 40-50 people worldwide?

The count is at 34 right now with
2 probable names to the side to
add but did not know last names

to be blunt, I have definitely NOT earned a slot on that list...

but the jumpers I really admire are the unknowns, jumping for themselves. heck, some may NOT want their names known to help preserve a job. US servicemen BASE, but is it helpful for promotions?

I doubt this list is accurate, and part of me hopes it never is...

Re: [wwarped] BASE experience
It's extremely rare for someone to make that many jumps and not be known by some more mainstream jumper. In fact, I have never heard of anyone who has done this.

but that's the point... of course you have not heard of them.

somebody in France might happily be jumping an object. they can not be bothered with a BASE number or the chatter here.

it's like bigfoot, do you believe those jumpers exist?
Shortcut
Re: [wwarped] BASE experience
no, i don't believe such jumpers exist. a few hundred, yeah, more than a thousand, no.

It hasn't hurt any of us military jumper I know of...

yet...

On a seperate off topic note... I was amazed at first at how many military jumpers I RANDOMLY ran into all over the world, until I put some thought into it. Then it made a lot of sense... almost total sence..
Shortcut
Re: [leroydb] BASE experience
I'd assume it depends on how high you wish to climb...

it may never hurt an enlisted guy, but what about an ambitious officer?
Shortcut
Re: BASE experience
simply looking among the great friends i jump with regularly these days, i am quite certain that list of 1000+ jump individuals will grow exponentially in the next year or two. i'm positive it will at least double, quite possibly triple or more within 2-3 years.
Shortcut
Re: [wwarped] BASE experience
I can say that there "might" be numerous Officers that have had to put their civilian jumping career on hold after they got to certain ranks. But most would still "sneak" a jump in here and there. Heck there is a Captain that I know of that jumps, by now he should be up for Major... Its partially in how you "sell" it (ADD: partially in how you sell it or keep it on the down-low)

Then again, I am just a desk jocky, what do I know... Laugh

As long a you are not doing bandit jumps and only do legal jumps, there is a better chance they wont care. Hell, those that I thought would try to tell me to stop skyjumps or BASE, actually thought it was cool. They just thought I was one of the quite types, and the fact I jump, threw them for a good loop.

But you know as well as me, perceptions are reality in the mind of the beholder....Wink

Whats "heard of" ? They have been in a few movie's? They are a friend of yours? Been to an event or 2?
