Greetings from Menara Kuala Lumpur! The tallest tower in South-East Asia

Menara Kuala Lumpur is pleased to announce that the KL Tower International Jump Malaysia 2009 is back! The event will take place in October in the lead up of our 13th Anniversary celebration. BASE jumpers from around the world are invited to come and join this prestigious event. This year’s theme will be emphasizing on ‘Caring Society’. This year’s adventure jump will be even more exciting with special inclusion of a feat to jump off a cliff. The jump will be done from 6 buildings including the tallest buildings in the state of Sarawak, Alor Star, Penang, Melaka and Kuala Lumpur. Menara Taming Sari is the new tower included for the first time in KL Tower International Jump Malaysia 2009.

Do you have any further detail on this years event?

That is:

What are the minimum jump numbers for each portion of the event. I seem to recall that it was 500 for most portions and 100 for the KL Tower jump itself?
What is the cost of the event for the participants? Is per event/jump or is there a package deal that includes transportation to the various locations and accommodations?
Are there any discount flights to KL from the US if you are a participant?

Can someone join the event at a certain point and pay a pro-rated amount?

Basically, they request that you don't die but it's entirely optional.

Cool. That is good because I always like to keep my options open.

The 500 jump requirement was something dreamed up by the trio that demanded Menara KL hire them to organise the event last year. Since there has never been more then 3 or 4 people at any of their extended events with over 500 BASE jumps it was a very ambitious requirement. It prevented most people who wanted to from going and that otherwise would have been invited.
Last year’s organisers were fired before the event even stated and Menara KL then got people to go to their event that had never BASE jumped before. This year Menara KL have an experienced Malaysian BASE jumper Idros Yusop working for them so I would hope that he will encourage them to set a more sensible requirement level.

So just for clarification, the entry fee, at any point, will cover lodging from that point on until the tour is over?

And there is no need for jumpers to book hotel reservations unless they desire to stay elsewhere?

are the dates for this set in stone yet? where are they posted?

Refer to your 1st question; Yes, the entry fee at any venue will cover the lodging until end of tour.

2nd- if you follow at any venue please confirm the hotel as we need to do an advance booking unless you desire to stay somewhere else. But please bear in mind, if you book other hotel please do on your own.

Will Menara KL continue to make the landing areas more dangerous this year, as they do every year, or will they be improving them?

Specifically from last years event I refer to the solid metal barricades put up in our landing area for the event at Alor Setar. This was someone’s very misguided idea of necessary safety measures but they only made it a much difficult and dangerous place to land. Going from past incidents at the venue these barricades would make it potentially more dangerous for spectators too. Overall it became a less enjoyable place to jump.

Also despite pleas in the lead up to last years event to remove all the Flying Fox wires at KL Tower, more wires were put up. These wires totally blocked the alternate landing area that has been regularly needed to be used during past events. The animated graphics on the front page of your website is a good depiction of what options jumpers have coming in to land should they get caught out. Menara KL has also seen themselves two years in a row what happens when these wires are left in place.

Will Menara KL give BASE jumpers some guarantee that they will improve these situations and show that they are part of the “Caring Society” that their event theme suggests?

If Menara KL plan to make things more difficult and dangerous at any of their sites, can they notify jumpers in advance so individual jumpers can decide which venues are worthwhile attending.

Dear My Beloved Jumpers,

I wanted to take a moment to let you all know that I am leaving my position at KL Tower on Monday, 2nd March 2009 is my last working day. Elton John said "Sorry seemed to be the hardest word" but it's harder to say good bye, especially when you grew up with a company…..

I appreciate having had the opportunity to work with you all. Thank you for the support, guidance, and encouragement. I shall be leaving KL Tower on a very sad note as I will most certainly miss each and everyone of you and the times we have shared working together. Surely, I’ve made mistakes and with that I would like to express my utmost sincere apologies and gratitude to ALL.

Jojo, it was a real pleasure writing the first draft of your termination notice. Too bad you lost the full meaning of it after it was only slightly altered to make it more politely Malaysian. Maybe I will expand on it for you. Your reply to it that was forwarded to me was a very revealing one too.
