Base jumping after LASIK
So the DR says to wait 1 month, did anyone here have it done and if so how long did you wait to base jump again? I can understand 1 month no skydiving because of the pressure change, but I think he may be wrong about BASE.. Anyone?

Re: [2k2f4i] Base jumping after LASIK
I didn't start base jumping until a couple years after I started BASE....

But as far as skydiving goes... I waited the 3 weeks that the Dr said... I actually think I waited about a month due to bad weather.

FWIW: I didnt have lasIK or PRK, I lasEk, note the E.

I was actually more worried about my martial arts training at the time.. I got really good at blocking or diverting a punch to the head really quick.

If it dosent feel right, don't jump

Re: [2k2f4i] Base jumping after LASIK
I had LASIK done 2 years ago and in the first two weeks I was skydiving and basejumping. My first base with the new eyes went great hell I forgot I had it done in tell I landed then realized all the new things I saw on the jump. I ask my doc on the skydiving he said as long as I had goggles I would be good. I did not ask for base for that brings up a hour of why do you do that and where do you do that. Enjoy the new eyes for I should have do it years ago love it and if anyone is thinking of getting it done do it its worth every penny.

Re: [2k2f4i] Base jumping after LASIK
I've had two lasik eye surgeries and I don't think it would make a difference if you skydived or base jumped a few days later. Once your lens heals back into place there's nothing that could really go wrong and that happens really fast.

Re: [2k2f4i] Base jumping after LASIK
Don't jump for a month. The biggest risk I see is not from your flap breaking loose, which could happen on a hard opening, but the fluctuations in vision that are common in that first month post procedure. It would be a bad day to have that blurred vision result in a high tension or guide wire strike. Even a hard landing because the ground snuck up on you causing a twisted an ankle could put you down for more than a month. Remember that even though you see 20/20 today, you could see 20/40 tomorrow and that would be normal in the healing process. I work with parachutists doing medical evaluations for a living, and I have had the procedure myself. Take the rest of the time off and sew a new rig or just work out. You would probably get away with jumping early, but why take a risk that can be mitigated? If you have questions, PM me.

LeRoy, I hope your medical advice is not like Ryan's. Poor Rob....

i guess i waited about 4 weeks and then 2 more for weather. but it's great to jump without glasses for vision, the ones for "coolness" i still wear ;-)

Re: [fastpete] Base jumping after LASIK
Had 2-3 weeks rest before a 10 day trip to the Swiss Valley. It never looked sweeter!

Should have had the op done years prior....only downside is I get a little glaring with car headlights at night.....9/10 for the positive results, and balanced against 1/10 for side effects.

we have a skydiver eye doctor in northern florida. i believe it was perry florida where i went 10+ years ago for the eye slicing not the laser. i bet he does the laser stuff now. one of the golden night wagner brothers worked for him. if u can find him he would have good answers.

Yeah, he was a good guy, lived in Tallahassee,
and was very well liked in the community for
his pro bono work with poor kids.
