Ancient history
This was about 25 years ago. We were bullet proof and untouchable. Oops. I got to work on Monday morning and received a standing ovation in the cafeteria.

Wow! There are a few points about the actual report that I noticed that were,... strange.

1. i assume the conditions "being wrong on the ground", were the conditions of being busted.

2. The paper gave the addresses of the ACCUSED, not the CONVICTED. Horrible, probably the worst infraction of the entire thing. But media is perfect, we all know that.

3. 2 hours, 1300 ft. really? gear must have been heavier back then. Tongue

4. 3-5 second delays? 1300ft. You guys must have loved canopy time. Did you swoop it in?

5. If the crosswords on 6A, where is the answer key goddammit!!

There were four of us having a good time yukking it up and taking pictures. It was the first for Mad Dog. Remember too that we were wearing skydiving rigs. We used to stop about every 400' for a line but not that day. Our climb times were dramatically reduced after this day and mostly confined to night time or over the fog ops.

Everything was kinda wadded into the rigs with the lines laid in a figure eight in the tray, slider tied to links, canopy flatpacked on it's nose. 28" pilot chutes. We had plenty to worry about.

Re: [GreenMachine] Ancient history
The clip was just unearthed from my archives laying forgotten for a long long time. I got a big kick out of the recognition -but- For years and years to come that was how I was remembered. "Weren't you the guy who jumped off that tower?" instead of "Weren't you that guy who made the company millions and millions?" Worth it still.

I don't think Phil Smith even had 50 jumps yet when we were busted. The county mounties thought it was pretty cool but had to handle the trespass. Nobody'd ever seen anything like THAT before. It's a little bit of an ignominious distinction being some of the very first to be busted and we were pretty surprised when it happened if you can believe it.

More ancient history

Mac has posted a shitload of similar stuff for all to see and download on the UK board. For guys like me, who like to know and hear stories about how it was way back when, it's just awesome stuff. I've been enjoying these stories so much the past few days, absolutely brilliant stuff. Also check out the subforums that have all the publications (British BASE Magazine, BASE Magazine, BASELINE Magazine, JUMP Magazine, The Fixed Object Journal)

He went head down and twisted then pitched. Had a 180 with line twist and flew back at the tower just missing it and the wires. No sweat. Getting busted was only part of the story.
