Jumping a B on your own w/ GC
I have had my eye on a B, and don't have any other jumpers that are no where near me. This B is begging me to be jumped every time I pass it. What to do, what to do? This Poll is not so much to make up my decision on this jump, but would like to know what you all would do? P.S. info 700' w/ over hung cranesWink

Zotar made a good point in his PM he sent me. (7 jumps All from Per and WV 3 SL off and 4 Up) Let me rephrase the part on, "wait until you have more experience and or experienced jumpers with you.

He could probably negotiate a discount rate with the airlines if he bought a block of tickets and flew a bunch of us out there to jump...

Honestly, if you have ground crew, other jumpers won't really do much for you, as long as you know what you are doing. Except for morale I suppose. Make sure your ground crew is competant.

Have you been the exit point yet?

When I scope out new objects to
jump solo I almost always climb
it once, sure my rig is with me,
but I almost always come back
and do the next time.

Jump #12 was my 1st: static line,
urban, crane, and solo with a small
LZ, took several climbs for me to
get the nuts to jump.

Good luck!

Probably not a good idea...why risk twice the bust factor and go in there with the mindset you will let your fears overcome you.

if you think you have properly assessed the risks and can deal with them, jump it. much will depend on the building, the outs, the landing area, weather patterns, etc.

if you feel compelled to jump it, no matter what, then you may be willing to accept more risk than desirable. it might be appropriate to wait for a second opinion.

I'd think there would be someone within a few hours drive that would be willing to help out...

stay safe.
have fun.
avoid getting caught.

prefer to jump alone with one ground crew

alone with one ground crew (usually my husband Blush)....for the integrity and humility of the experience. For some jumps, the less parachutes, the less likely to get caught.

I think many people would not do half of the things they do if others where not part of the equation. I know that as a beginner we need somebody with more experience and knowledge to help assist us with our choices on objects that we jump. Of course we should always have a ground crew person with us not only for look-out, but for safety issues as well. Jumping alone makes the experience more intense because of self-analysis regarding the risk and reward issue that sometimes is pushed aside when more people are involved in the jump. There is security in numbers and the larger the number creates a false sense of safety . The ego becomes defenseless and can then override a good sense of judgement, as it often does in everyday life. The larger the population gets, the more the choices become competitive.

How many of us would jump if there were no bragging rights or video? Dont get me wrong, i am totally proud of participating in such an activity and i have plenty of photos and video but am just curious about our motivation in jumping. How many jumpers analyze and truly think about every nuance of what it is that they are about to do and how prepared, body, mind and spirit to undertake the task at hand?

Agreed.

Thanks for the input.
I see the logic in it.

As for the last part,
sure there is fear,
but some of it is
just prudence.

Telling you not to jump it at your experience level would be totally hypocritical. Cool.

BUT... What is the LZ like? What does 90 right look like? Where are the power lines? What about that pesky parking garage? Blah, Blah, Blah...Almost impossible to answer your Q without looking at the object. At a minimum you might want to email some pix to an experienced jumper for an evaluation of options. My mentor always looks at buildings slightly different than I had on my own.

Make sure there is NO WIND if your gonna do it.
