Oil companies are seldom interested in having a bunch of rope or canopy sniffing hippies near their rigs. So...I'm not sure this is "good" for access.

An example of this has been the hassles climbers have had in KY with the oil companies that plunder the Red River Gorge.

In reply to:
the Big Bend bouldering area, Big Bend Butte, Dolomite Spire, Lighthouse Tower along the River Road, Echo Pinnacle, Merrimac and Monitor Buttes in Courthouse Pasture, and the Witch and Warlock Towers in Hell Roaring Canyon. These desert towers host many classic climbs such as Infrared, Dolofright, Iron Maiden, Poseidon Adventure, and The Window Route.

I have never heard of any of those jumps.

ray- y'all are the bestest redneck I have ever jumped with! I intend that as a compliment. Big truck, hunts coyotes in the almost zero light, jumps off shit with homemade ( wish you still made them) rigs. Gotta love ya, but.....

The strip mining of ore in area of the SW VERY near to natural watersheds that provide water to millions, potentially poisoning them, not such a good way to earn an extra exit point or two.

I hate to sound cold and moab is an awsome place but if you don't want the oil companies stop driving the cars and do as the Armish do. You all cry when fuel prices go up because there is trouble in the Middle East. You not think it is about time you started drilling for your own and stopped being dependent of supply from abroad.

Re: [greeny] Help Protect MOAB
we've already reached peak oil. the u.s. simply does not have enough oil reserves to meet its energy needs so simply drilling locally won't solve the problem. funny thing is that none of the oil companies are actively searching for oil. i interviewed with schlumberger last year in boston to design equipment to find oil. seemed pointless because no one seems to want the data. there are using existing data from old leases and log surveys. hey, let's go invade iraq since they have tons of oil. oh wait, we did.
