I hope you're right about that last comment.
On the one hand, I'd be REALLY pissed off if someone tried to take away my freedom to commit suicide.
On the other hand, someone who's really determined to end it all would plan it out well ahead of time, and nobody would ever know it was coming. You'd never have a chance to even try to talk that kind of person out of it.
Most of the traditionally labeled "suicide attempts" are quite the opposite; they're either spontaneous and poorly planned, a call for attention (rather than a serious effort to get out of life), or a "fuck it all, let's roll the dice because life sucks" gamble. Hence the very low success rate.
The fact that you saw a possible suicide attempt coming suggests this lady falls into the second category, and likely no longer wants to commit suicide (if she's still around). Somebody in the first category would have just walked up to the edge and jumped.
The uncommitted take pills, shoot themselves, draw attention, or jump in front of a bus. The truly dedicated use an exit bag or just jump.
