On my 20th base jump at perrine. I watched a suicide jumper go in.

The next load I was on I pulled off and saved a person who was going to jump....just stayed with her and talked, called the cops, and when the cop was walking up I put her in a choke hold.

They have balls...i'll give em that.

ya but I dont think any logical base jumper has a problem with death. I mean if we wanted to call it a day, I dont think any of us would have a problem with it. After all, it can happen on absolutely any jump right? the difference is I want to experience it over and over again, hence the parachute

It's really interesting how could the director just watch and film at the same time all those people die, when he could have probably saved most of them...

freaky shit. not that ive ever thought about killing myself (except that one time), but i would think one would at least want to try to pull a sick ass triple gainer, or triple lending dive before lights out.

She had all the right to jump. But I equally had the right to choke her out. If her will to die was stronger than my will to not see someone die. Then she wouldve got her wish that day.

And I have the suspicion that she is happy i was more strong willed that day.

On the one hand, I'd be REALLY pissed off if someone tried to take away my freedom to commit suicide.

On the other hand, someone who's really determined to end it all would plan it out well ahead of time, and nobody would ever know it was coming. You'd never have a chance to even try to talk that kind of person out of it.

Most of the traditionally labeled "suicide attempts" are quite the opposite; they're either spontaneous and poorly planned, a call for attention (rather than a serious effort to get out of life), or a "fuck it all, let's roll the dice because life sucks" gamble. Hence the very low success rate.

The fact that you saw a possible suicide attempt coming suggests this lady falls into the second category, and likely no longer wants to commit suicide (if she's still around). Somebody in the first category would have just walked up to the edge and jumped.

The uncommitted take pills, shoot themselves, draw attention, or jump in front of a bus. The truly dedicated use an exit bag or just jump.

Example: When someone posts a video of your friend going in on some video site and all the teens start taking the piss, then tell me you think its a cool thing to do.......Have some respect fellas........ come on....

On the other hand, I'd be really pissed if the family of tourists at the overlook at the time had seen this woman take a header off the bridge and burst at the bottom because Jake was so concerned about her "freedom" that he didn't want to interfere.

You guys are right, I think Jake was being selfish when he stopped her. He had watched someone else casually stroll by and leap to their death the day before and didn't want to see it again. That shit sticks with you, and I think he had enough for the week. Selfish. And since he was so selfish, I didn't have to watch her die either. And neither did the other jumpers, or my wife, or the tourists with their little kids.

Let's not pretend even for an instant that her "right" to take her own life extends so far as to make it the resposibility of all those around her to take part in it.
Her actions were not taking place in a vacuum.

I'm still impressed by Jake's courage to walk up to a complete stranger and say,"Hey, are you here to kill yourself? Cause you look like you're here to kill yourself." That took balls.

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be looking at it all wrong.

is just another manifestation of how our
society is going down the drain!

However, the documentary that the clip
came from was well done and explored
a topic that is interesting to whuffos &
BASE jumpers a like.

especially after jumping with someone

If one dirt dive a jump and it go's to shit and he or she goes in, thats one thing .....but if they dirt dive there own suicide and it goes as planed....yes it can be graded
