Re: [cornishe] Ripped off-- the truth

Wwarped- Why would you close the thread, Tom asked you to? Who are you? You say things like "we do this". I haven't seen you at any real base event. Where did you come from? Are you a bridge day one-timer with some aiello-granted power now?
All of you are being duped and before you defend someone so strongly, YOU SHOULD learn all the facts.
slow down. take a deep breath. relax.
1 - I closed down the thread because the OP basically cried "uncle." he was less than articulate and presented his case poorly. I let his PA slide to permit his side to be heard. I thought if I left the thread live, the OP would get relentlessly bashed.
I would have been within my authority to ban the OP, but I thought that would accomplish little.
2 - it matters not who I am, or even IF I BASE jump (which I do). I view moderation as essentially being an on-line version of Miss Manners. my goal is to keep the discussion civilized, to promote the exchange of ideas.
I
avoid expressing actual technical content. that is not my job. I refuse to be the final arbitrator on things BASE. jumpers ought to call the vendor, their FJC instructor, their mentor, etc. before trusting my advice.
3 - see below, someone appears to disagree with you...

I bought one of these rigs. I was in Twin taking my second course from Tom when he was picking out the colors and placing the order. Tom told us from the outset that we would have no choice in colors, options, logos, etc if we wanted to place our order with his student gear, as it was all going to be built the same. The biggest compensation for that was that every person ordering gear that did not already have gear was able to take Tom's rental gear free of charge and jump it until the new rigs arrived.
When it came in, we were given an opportunity to look at it, try it on, hook it up and pack it, whatever. Tom never asked for money until we were satisifed. Heck, I had four jumps on mine before I got around to paying him for it. Do I feel taken advantage of? Nope. I'm thrilled with my rig. My brother bought one as well. Also thrilled.
Are the logos pretty big? Yep. Any bigger than BASERIGS.COM? I don't think so. Am I confident that if I had said, "Christ, Tom, these logos are friggin' huge!" Tom would have let me use his rental gear until a new rig without the logos came in? Yep. Why am I so confident? Because I said "Tom, I wasn't expecting these BIG logos." Tom's reply "They're a little bigger than I thought they would be, too. Are you okay with them?" "Yep."
See how adults handle these things?

I must admit I have a bias towards rational, coherent expression. I fail to appreciate emotional content that lacks support. "you suck." "you suck worse." "you suck harder." yeah, that all wears thin after awhile. (back to being Miss Manners...)
oh, and it sounds like newbies are the ones complaining. generally, their enthusiasm limits the facts they absorb. so who to believe? (heck, I buy straight from the manufacturer.)
5 - you may or may not realize (I can't say from your post), but I never defended Tom. I credit Tom with being articulate. I also have seen him be incredibly helpful to a jumper whom he did not know.
have I seen a dark side? NO. do I expect he has one? YES.
6 - as far as I'm concerned, post all day long about the Tom's practices you hate. call his ideas idiotic. personal attacks, especially highly insulting, are not tolerated by me. (that also goes for any comments regarding his family.)
I'd love to see an articulate, factual, on-line slug fest. unfortunately, it has not happened. Tom states facts, while the other side expresses emotion. <sigh>
