Madeira
Going there next weekend on a paragliding trip. Thinking about taking the rig with me: anyone have any details on C.G.? Do you actually need a motorcycle to jump it? Wink

Would appreciate a PM from anyone that knows what I'm talking about. Smile

Re: [Pendragon] Madeira
Hi!

Well, I'm not really a base jumper but a pg pilot, however I know what I'm talking about :-)

I've been to Madeira twice for flying and I can tell you, the best "object" to jump from on the island is a tandem paraglider...Forget about Cabo Girao, it only works with a motorbike :-) Well, I've seen some other possible exit points there, but they're all much lower and one potential place is disturbed by the cable car's lines. At some places there are just simply no landing places as the cliff ends up in the see. I think it's not a worth...

However I've seen other videos with the guy who jumped with the motorbike where he jumps 3-4 different spots on the island. 2 of them were bridges, both between Funchal and Cabo Girao on the highway (I guess one is around 80, the other max 100m), you will immediately recognize the places on your way from the airport. The other one was a cliff, somewhere high up in the mountains, but not too high as well...maybe 2-3 sec. delay...but no idea where.
The complete island is surrounded by huge coastal cliffs, but you will see, none of them is really vertical...but don't worry, it is fucking great for paragliding!!! :-)

Hope it helps something...
Ciao!

Thanks for that. I had wondered about the vertical nature of that particular cliff.

Maybe I'll speak nicely to the paragliding instructor I'm going with. I believe he can certify tandem instructors. Sly

Re: [Pendragon] Madeira
It was jumped way back in 1978 and the guy clipped the cliff in freefall but got away with it. Reported by a 100% reliable source at the time.

Re: [All] Madeira
remember, we have a policy against naming sites.

the policy prevents unwanted attention to regularly jumped sites.

the policy also makes it more difficult for a newbie to find somewhere to hurt themselves.

as this place is unknown to me, I'm asking for co-operation. (our policy may differ from the paragliding world.)

thanks for your help.
