How far out on the crane were you?

A good general rule is this: If you have to ask, then no. You *could* count it as a B if you want, but why not just go and jump a B?

Personally, I think a crane is an 'other'.

there really aren't any hard and fast rules.
it is the honor system. do what you feel is right. you are the one that will live with it.

NOPE, a crane is not a building. A building is a building!

you got a C as a crane :)

Too bad you can't convince the crane operator to set up on a cliff or a bridge, then you can rack up an E and an S!

Re: [pete683] building jump or crane jump?
If the building is high enough I jump the building. I might go jump the crane after, but hit the b first. i think it has to do with my internal feelings of accomplishment. Its much nicer to look at an object and think "I jumped that." Rather than "I jumped the thing that helped build that building."

and if you have 4 cameras, one in helmet, one in your feet, one in the belly, and one in the hand you have 4 jumps

i asked my mentor about this on the way to ground crew for him and a friend recently. he said a crane is considered an "O" or other.

Re: [countzero] building jump or crane jump?
I stopped jumping cranes.

Buildings will be there to stay (at least, for some time) and the crane will be gone. Actually, you might even jump exactly the same crane next to a different building, screwing up your different object count. Unsure

Hmm, I think jumping the crane first
and then later jumping the building
is the money way to do things.

Cause the crane goes away so hit
when you can and plus when you
do the B you already kind of know
the landing zone.

Have fun on that greasy ass crane. IF the B is doable I'll be flicking that. But maybe I'll jump the crane the next night so I can open THAT object too, then you can have it Tongue.

Just take two rigs and hit both...security will never think someone has the audacity to do it twice in a night Wink

That's just silly talk. Jump the crane 11 times and never jump the building.

It was only 7 times, and I never thought that B was jumpable, but thanks Tim. Tongue

The building wasn't jumpable and 11 was my count for that crane. All other objects in the area, you have me by a HUGE margin.

A crane is not a Building. Cranes are classified as Others.

A crane, either on top of, attached to, or completely detatched from a building makes no difference, it's still a crane.

Agree.........reminds me of when people call jumps from a balloon (tethered or not), hang glider, paraglider, ultralight, etc., etc. using BASE specific gear from a low alt............a BASE jump........it's a damm skydive and always will be.

stressing over what to label a jump is about as trivial as you get in the sport. jump it. enjoy it. stay healthy.

True... but a crane still isn't a building Tongue

I jumped a local power tower last night. Some people would call it an antenna but in my opinion it certainly is not an antenna.

the annual discussion about classification revolves around how to classify...

1) by looks. this is how most begin and leads to the creation of the "Other" category. ShockedMadCrazy

2) by wind hazard. the risk of each jump is greatly impacted by how the wind flows. as originally stated by Carl Boenish...
B - wind blows around
A - wind blows through
S - wind blows under
E - wind blows over

buildings under construction (skeletons), antennas, power towers, etc. all then become A's.

dams, cliffs, etc. all then become E's.

but as I wrote upboard, it is an honor system. no one will officially verify the jumps or the objects claimed. no one confirms jump numbers or deployment method. if a system works for someone, fine. it all is personal preference and pride. Angelic
