It was actually kind of hard to time the exit while skipping. But as much as we might have hoped, the gainers did absolutely nothing to reduce the devastating level of Gay that we felt on that jump.

Not just national... a couple of my friends watching CNN in Mexico called to tell me that they saw me, which is quite impressive given the presidential race, the tanking economy and the missing children that have been clogging the airwaves this month

I actually have a very similar image of two of my friends exiting a big rock out west like that.

They were cooler than you, though, because they rotated in opposite directions after exit.

Yes, I am... ha ha ha ha

I saw the video and heard the following:

-Jumper under canopy broke 4 lines and landed uneventfully in the water.
-Jumper who crashed through canopy deployed a few seconds later without incident.

I've seen at least 4 of these type incidents at BD in the last 15 years, and all are nearly the same. We warn jumpers about this every year. Timing is key, people. I'm sure others have better information, but the important thing is that everyone is unhurt. And some guy out there has an AWESOME pic to hang on his wall. To the jumpers involved - contact me for the photographer's email address and maybe she'll get you a high res copy.

What specifically caused the lines to break?

Well, yeah. But how did they break from someone hitting the canopy from above? Is the impulse of re-inflation after that really big enough to break lines?

Imagine the jumper falling all the way. The lines would go slack at first, but as he continues to fall he will stretch the lines once again only below. The force may have only been on the lines that broke. If they hadn't broke I wonder if it would have been a fatality.

 I fuckn hope not...
