V3 - Test Flights
I had the chance to make a couple of jumps on a V3 this weekend
and saw some others fly it too. Before trying it I was a little pessimistic about the performance increase and claims that it was easier to fly than the V1 & V2. Well unfortunately for my bank account the improvements are very obvious from the first flight.
When I first tried the V2 my flight was more or less the same as earlier flights in a V1 on the same day. Over time I learned to fly it differently to the V1 and get more performance. I was expecting something similar with the V3 but it's a different animal altogether!
On Saturday I jumped my V2 in the morning and a few hours later jumped the V3 from the same spot. From the exit the suit seemed to start to fly sooner. I wobbled around a little for about the first 20 seconds of flight (I guess because of the larger arm wings) but as I played around with the position a little the wobbling stopped and the speed started to increase. Once I found the right position the suit felt very stable and it was easy to maintain the position. I opened higher than the earlier flight after having flown further - even with the sloppy first part of the flight.
Later in the day came test jump #2. The V3 started to fly quickly again, I found the nice position almost immediately and it felt incredible! I flew faster and further then ever before opening higher and further from the exit than ever.
On Sunday morning it was someone else's turn with the V3. We did a 2-way (me back in my V2 of course) and about 5 seconds after exit he was soaring above me.
I'm still on a high from my V3 flights and rather miffed at the guy that loaned it to me
I was perfectly happy with my V2 before that! So be warned - if you are in the market for a new speed machine the V3 is yer only man but if you have a V1 / V2 turn down any offers to try the V3.... the first flight may be free, but it'll cost you in the long run!
At least you took care of the suit though, Rico Chet returned it after pulling a superman in the mud
