Re: [epibase] yacht jump?
On my sailing trip around the Pacific, I came across a Perini Navi, http://www.perininavi.it/

the mast was 171' above the waterline, I was able to get onto the ship legally, and the captain was hesitant, but i think I could have convinced him. sadly, I did not have my rig. but they are around. and oh, this 180' cutter rigged ketch was one of Pereni Navi's SMALL ships.

there are a few companies that define the innovation and determination of the human brain and soul.

Apple Computers,
Garmin,
Apex BASE,Tongue
Perini Navi,
Scaled Composites,
Edits-
Grumman (pre-Northrop)

any others?

Ever heard of the Maltese Falcon? pretty much the coolest vessel that has ever been in motion, aside the Spruce Goose and the Saturn V.

Ill try to remember the name of the Ketch i was aboard, it had a FREAKING ELEVATOR ON THE MAST TO THE FOURTH SPREADER, and I got a ride in it, but there is no ladder above the 4th spreader on the mainmast, so you would need to be SUPER keen on rigging a manline swiftly if you were going to bandit it. of course, the crew might be all for it. I met the crew at a bar and they got me on the ship, after talking up the sport of BASE to them over beer.

Plenty of other slick companies out there....

water - Mirabella V by Ron Holland - Done by composite materials. Mast is probably high enough to jump.
http://www.ronhollanddesign.com

air - Diamond Aircraft D-jet. first jet that was designed with the goal of being the first to reach a price tag lower then 1M$ for a jet.
http://www.diamondaircraft.com/aircraft/djet/

land - Tesla Motors - i drove one. its fast. and its green. even though the body design is not done by Tesla itself.
http://www.teslamotors.com/

I had a chance to know them all (2 more through work, and 1 less), where in each one of them the design (mechanical and functional) is art.

Yeah, but what would you log it as? A or O? Tongue Sails up or sails down? Not an A with sails raised? Object strike on sails might not be too bad. Carry and knife between you teeth and use it to brake your descent! Ah har!

Nah... Cover the sail with pile velcro, cover your body with hook velco. If you strike it, you stick... Organize your canopy and do a roll over for try two.

i was thinking sails up.. it would make exit a little overhung if it was under way. maybe then if i had a 180, it might even be out of the way before a sailstrike...

This is starting to sound like a great pitch for some sort of challenge type TV program including landing back on the underway yacht!

Re: [cpoxon] yacht jump?
sounds like a sick idea.

but sailboats underway, especially from a long or close reach create an insane amount of wake turbulance. I'm talking a lot. I have some sweet pics of flying a gyrokite behind our 40' cutter, the string, even with a few KG of tension on it, warped about 20 degrees from the wake the sails were creating. our 35,000lb boat was listed only about 30 degrees.

but yes, it would be SICK to land on a Navi at 10kts.
