Why don't I believe that . . .
But, okay I'll bite.
There are BASE jumpers going about their business in every major city in the U.S. every night. Occasionally a crew gets popped but so infrequently it's not really on anyone's radar screen. But the publicity Red Bull generates does put urban BASE on the radar screen to the point a judge might consider "outlaw" BASE something that needs nipping in the bud. So the next poor guy who's popped, and ironically probably a guy quietly jumping there for years, gets not a slap on the wrist but completely hung out to dry.
But you know all that. And you guys (Red Bull jumpers and their fans) justify it to yourselves and the hell with anyone else. If I thought for a second these jumps would lead to easier urban jumping I might be for it, but it won't. Red Bull presents these jumps just as a Judge and the cops would perceive them - stunts to be done only by professionals. But we both know that's not the reality of it.
Someone mentioned Redbull and El Cap. Hey, I'd love it if Red Bull threw some big money at that problem. But Red Bull isn't into using BASE to help anyone but themselves.
So you can turn your back on thirty years of BASE history to the point of making fun of it. You can come on here and call me schoolyard names. But don't pretend you're doing anything except hurting the little guy who just wants to make a few jumps in his own hometown . . .
