Roll over question
I see that Rollovers / McConkeys are done both slider-down and slider-up. I even see that some slider-up Rollovers are from not so high places. Places (and excuse me if I am wrong) that are likely not recommended for packed slider-up jumps.

So, my question is, are the time and vertical distance from line stretch to a fully deployed canopy the same in a Rollover SL-up and a packed SL-up configuration?
If yes, why? As I can image that speed will be higher in the packed situation.
If not, again, why?

For what it is worth, I have done multiple jumps packed SL-up from 420-450 feet. Blush Not acceptable in a higher wind situation as that for sure will influence opening direction.

Re: [Ronald] Roll over question
Its hard to say from line stretch, but I would guess that it, as you said, would have a lot to do with the delay. I will tell you that a slider up rollover in my experience had about the same opening altitude as a short delay slider off jump, but im sure thats incredibly variable as well.

Re: [Ronald] Roll over question
I have less than a dozen unpacked jumps
so far hence my experience is minimal...
However, why use a slider unpacked?

I skipped the slider, bridle & PC on my
unpacked jumps and they were all good!

As for slider-up on short delays, I read some
discussion on here with Maggot, NickDG, and
others that made sense... which had to do w/
real slow air speeds minimizing the affect of
a slider (sail or mesh) since air is not pushing
against it keeping it in the up position. Surely
one of the old hands will chime in.

Re: [GreenMachine] Roll over question
That really has a lot to do with how "short" the delay is. I routinely do 3 sec slider ups, and i like them a whole lot better over the long term than 3 sec slider slider downs. The slider makes a big difference in reefing, but as Calvin once pointed out, a square slider without any mesh in the middle would probably do the same. Slider up unpackeds are very nice for bridges when you want to do IROCs and not hit the steel, or if you want to do something ridiculous that I probably cant even thing of, or you just dont want to reconfigure from a large S.

Hmm, so you use a slider to get the canopy
to open lower (not slower) to place you below
the steel on a span. Okay.

Couldn't you get a similiar outcome by doing a
TARD-Over or a Mary-Poppins style TARD...
Just Curious and thanks for the reply.

Re: [GreenMachine] Unpacked + Slider
Well in this case, slower equals lower so then yes i guess it does both. The very concept of the IROC as an unpacked jump faces you towards the bridge on opening. Its not neccessary to do an IROC in any situation I can think of, but its a fun jump, and a reason to do a slider up unpacked jump, which is why I brought it up. If you just wanted to get off an object unpacked, sure there are a lot of safe ways to do it, slider up is just another fun, and potentially safe if done correctly, way to do it.

how about a low bridge with only one exit-able side opposite to the only land-able side?

Touche', but slider up? Honestly ive never really thought of my height limit for slider up unpacked jumps.

Have you or any of your
buddies done unpacked jumps
from lower than 100 feet?

I have the altitude charts from
a few different sources but I am
curious what is being pulled off.

Re: [GreenMachine] Unpacked + Slider
Nah I like to try to stay over 200 for unpacked and 300 for freefall, but im sure someone does ridiculous low stuff. I think actually an about 180 foot bridge is my lowest unpacked and 240 ft freefall.

floater TARD, floater PCA, floater static line or a McFlonkey are all better options for that situation in my opinion

who asked you?Tongue

no, your right. I was just trying to point out that there is a use for it.

but a tard? they call those tards for a reason? thats the one thing I never really liked. even the smart Tard.
I think the Irock is a better bet than that.
but no one asked me either.

Tards? This is SG we're talking about. Wink
