Slider up + tailgate & stoppers...
Do you use the tail gate with a slider up jump? If so do you attach it over or under the slider & with which lines?

Also Ive been recently been told (by non Base jumpers) that the big plactic stoppers over the connector links are dangerous? And should jump with out then? What do you lot think? Should I take them off, put the fabric ones on that you get in slink packits or not worry about it?

Thanks for you time everybody...

Re: [freefall80] Slider up + tailgate & stoppers...
edit for a friendly advice:
Hi freefall80Smile...nice to meet you, i have never heard about this problem in BASE gear. I also use this large silicon bumpers since i often switch from slider down to slider up, this silicon bumpers makes it way easier to pull up and down compare to this original sliderbumpers from Morpheus witch could give you a h### of a time to switching.
I believe this is a skydive problem cause the combo of sail slider and a fast canopy could push the slider down to the bumpers that the slider could go stuck between the lines and bumpers...

Tail gate...never used it, but why not using it..in that case i would have wrap 2-3 laps masking tape around control-lines and center C and D lines above the slider...
If you will be xtra safe i would use WLO togles from ApexBASE...but still shit could happen.
Peace out...Wink

Re: [freefall80] Slider up + tailgate & stoppers...
There are issues with slider up Tailgating. There are also issues with BPS (Big Plastic Stoppers). Ask your Mentor or instructor.
Just because you are skilled in some sports does not mean it will propagate to other sports. You are asking some basic questions that BASErs should already know.
Your questions are very scary. PM me and I will try to help you get sorted.
take care,

Re: [base283] Slider up + tailgate & stoppers...
Those queries should not be scary. Im more than happy to jump my setup as it is...

It was just a query as the situation arrised.

In skydiving those BPS's can jam the break lines when the slider comes down... so I guess it could happen in BASE...

Im also happy to jump slider up how ive been shown (no tailgate), but recently heard about using the tail gate aswell, and I was interested in how it was done...

Thats all. Cheers.

Re: [freefall80] Slider up + tailgate & stoppers...
I use about 3 wraps of 1-inch masking tape around my control lines for slider up jumps. I put this above the slider. If you put a tail gate below the slider then you can cause the slider to hang-up.

You don't see tail gates or tapes in slider up jumps in Europe a lot. In fact, I have never seen a European do it.

Johan, do you even base jump? Do you have any friends on this board? What the fuck is your problem? Every post I have ever read of yours is fucking retarded. Shut the fuck up!

Ditto.

If some nut with low experience and no sense, did as you suggested....and cratered in, how would you feel ?

I agree with the poster above...I dont know many who use tailgates/tape /slidergates, on slider up jumps....I dont...I can see why its used, but dont see slider up line overs/self clearing SU lineovers enough to make it a valid concern for me.
That view may /may not change as I get more experience.

Re: [base283] Slider up + tailgate & stoppers...
Which issues are there with taping control lines?
Euros, frenchies in particular, are generally opposed to it, and think it's BAD, but they can never tell you why it's bad. They just don't like it.
taping control lines with the SU takes about 10 extra seconds, helps keep said lines all bunched together in the core of the pack job while you're S folding it into your container, helps to stage a nose first inflation / opening, and can only help to prevent line overs. If someone has hard evidence to suggest that taping control lines in SU configurations is bad for any reason, I would love to hear it. Don't hoard this knowledge to yourself or restrict it to PM's, share the love.

Re: [pgpilot] Slider up + tailgate & stoppers...
in short, I can theorize that since it's the control lines that drive the slider, by taping them you are effectively choking it off and prolonging/delaying the reefing process. Just a guess as to why someone may think it's bad. I don't tape/tailgate slider up, but totally see how it can both prevent a lineover and inhibit the deployment.

Re: [vid666] Slider up + tailgate & stoppers...
right on thanks, good point... I wonder how much a couple wraps of masking tape really delays things... but it is a reasonable concern.
Space, wanna elaborate?
Cheers guys.

In my opinion, some sort of control line reefing (tailgate or masking tape), when combined with a slider, will slow the slider deployment.

At terminal, I think the effect is so small that it's negligible. Things are opening so fast anyway that the extra time doesn't matter.

At short delays, the difference is much more noticeable. On a slider up from the bridge here, for example, I can really tell the difference.

Personally, I'll use the tape on slider up jumps at terminal, but not on anything sub-terminal.
