International Health Insurance
I just got back from Switzerland, where I took one for the team and decided to test out International Health Insurance www.ihi.com

I bought it on a whim after reading about some guy on the paragliding forums who had to be evacuated after a crash. He had nothing but good things to say about them. They have no sports exclusions except motorsports. I bought the single trip insurance for around $80 US, and I USED IT!

I femured, broke my patella, had 2 surgeries, 2 days in ICU, 9 days in the hospital in Interlaken. Total bill somewhere around $100,000. They paid EVERYTHING. Best $80 I've ever spent. You guys can thank me later for testing it out for you.

Re: [mostwanted] International Health Insurance
Your best bet is to contact IHI and ask them directly.

Re: [AdamLanes] International Health Insurance
Definitely would want to contact them for the real answer, but based on my experience, I don't think they give a rat's ass. They never even asked how it happened, or questioned one single thing. As far as they knew it could have been from slipping on a wet noodle. They accomodated everything I asked for and never questioned me about anything except for the occasional courteous "how are you recovering?". Legal or not, I'll take my chances with them in the future... if they'll insure me.

I made a small claim after an ankle sprain off The Eiger and they paid right up. $150 covered me for the year. coming from the US, its one of the positive medical insurance experiences you can have

Re: [AdamLanes] International Health Insurance
From the IHI brochure

"Art. 11 Exceptions for compensation
11.1: The Company shall not be liable to pay
compensation for expenses which concern,
are due to or are incurred as a result of:
a).....
z) any illness or injury resulting from active
engagement in any illegal act."

When I first signed in for the travel insurance that clause was not part of the contract.
I would not emphasize the coverage of illegal jumps with the company.

Always remember insurance companies are in the business of not honoring claims.
But IMHO IHI is still the best choice on the market.

Yes, this is IHI Bupa from Denmark and we are talking about their travel insurance. I had to use them this Easter after a bad landing and agree that they are well worth the money. Deluxe treatment all the way. They only covers travels outside your home country and only travels less than one month at a time, but other than that they make life as a traveling base jumper so much easier :)

Re: [johenrik] Oh, and I forgot
You can extend the travel insurance beyond one month for longer trips for an additional fee, FYI.

Looked all over it, and under myPage too - can't see a way to extend a trip online. There's a broken link under

https://global.ihi.com/...ons+and+answers.aspx that gets you to complains instead of extending... Tongue

Re: [gravityboyd] International Health Insurance
Hello everybody!
I have worked for IHI/BUPA in HQ in Copenhagen, some years ago. I´m a jumper and paraglider myself and can strongly recommend both their travel and health insurance. They are somewhat expensive, but well worth the cost! 24 hour alarm service, so you can get medical treatment minutes after kissing the north face without the need for selling your house and other values.

Stay safe!

Re: [outrager] Oh, and I forgot
I think you need to have a rep do it for you, but it is easy and can be done online. Just follow the link for the instant chat with an IHI Bupa representative, and explain your situation and what you want.
