Re: [johan420] Eric jones
Haven't heard from him lately . . .

But I know Eric Jones made his first few BASE jumps in the late 1980s with Moe Viletto, including becoming the first person to BASE jump the Eiger in Switzerland. He and Moe also did the first strung cable type jump over a rock quarry around that same time too.

I know he was at Bridge Day 1989 because that's where I first met him. The conditions weren't great that year and Eric elected not to jump. But he went west to Arizona and California and made two bridge jumps and a building jump.

Eric is an amazing guy. I remember him telling us when he was a small boy there was a large tower near his home in North Whales. He used to climb it all the time for fun. When he got bored with that he climbed it only in the winter. When he got bored with that he only climbed it in ice storms . . .

That had me wondering too. I'm trying to figure out what year that trip to AF took place. It had to be prior to October of 1999 because I see Jan Davis in the vid. But I'm fairly sure Tom Sanders wasn't doing AF trips until after 1989 or 90.

I know all the jumps Eric made with Moe were on BASE rigs as I've seen the photos. And Moe was building BASE rigs at that time (with big Ravens in them) and wouldn't have allowed it any other way.

Tommy's AF trips had more of "skydiving" bent to them rather than pure BASE so maybe that had something to do with it.

Hello,
I jumped Sotano de las Golondrinas with Eric in '03.
Moe was there, Eric was using BASE gear.
Peace

He runs a small cafe that does a great breakfast and he always seems to have time for a cup of tea and a friendly chat if you stop by............

Yes, it is in Tremadog, North Wales, UK. Good climbing just the other side of the road, with 5 min walk-ins!

I don't believe he's jumped for some time. Eric is also a paraglider pilot, but I believe various injuries now prevent him from doing that too. Last time I was there (several years now) I was with a climbing guide (who's now since retired) called Terry Taylor. It was quite amusing to watch them compare injuries!
