Wingsuit shrivel flap - installation and usage
Wingsuit shrivel flap - installation and usage

The wingsuit shrivel flap for stowing the PC on the leg has been around for 6 years now but some people are not assembling / packing the flap correctly.

Some mistakes I have seen recently:

- sewing the wrong end of the PC end of the shrivel to the bridle, preventing the flap from "shriveling", greatly increasing the risk of a PC in tow.

- sewing the entire shrivel flap to the bridle rather than just the pin end, result as above.

- sewing a velcro strip to the bridle instead using a shrivel, result as above.

- attaching the shrivel to the bridle too close to the pins so that tension is applied to the bottom pin before the velcro has completely peeled, again increasing the risk of a PC in tow.

It is better to have a separate bridle with the flap installed that you only use when stowing the PC in the leg pouch.

Attached are some photos of a correctly assembled shrivel flap. When I get time i will make a .pdf to post online with more details.

Re: [unclecharlie95] Wingsuit shrivel flap - installation and usage
I have corrected several people who have sewn the shrivel flap to the bridal incorrectly.

my additions.
1-ALWAYS use a 11+' bridal for the shrivel flap wingsuit mod.
2-36"+ PC
3-always check the pull force needed out of the LOC on the suit after packing PC, I have found it to be quit hard sometimes.

One jumper even sewed the scrap peice of loop velcro Phoenix ships their suits with onto the bridal, long wise. I had to show him how to find the shrivel flap in his goody bag that came with the suit.

What's the rationale for using an 11' bridle? Don't you run the risk of the extra long bridle causing an entanglement in the cascades / something else?

I have used this system with a 9' bridle without issue - and have been experiencing nothing but nice clean deployments... although am I missing something?

Agree with you on the 36" PC. Never had problems getting it out either.

(my wingsuit is a V-1; container is a standard Gargoyle)

Re: [Pendragon] Wingsuit shrivel flap - installation and usage
I had the PC get stuck in my lines a few times years ago. but so what? it does next to nothing. I don't think the chance of it coming in early to stop the slider is high enough at all. but with the bridal shrivel flap, you are negating a half meter or more of bridal with the shrivel flap. so, your 9' bridal went from an effective 8' to 6'.

might be no big deal. just my opinion. and I now have used a 38" every time. snappy is good.
