I knew from a LONG time ago. We lost touch in '96. The last time I saw him was in New Orleans. I was shooting a commercial for Miller Lite and he was high off his ass on E. Typical John. I think he had just gotten married, too.

If anyone knows where he is or how to email him, please pass my info on to him...or his info to me.

Since I'm not a jumper, I won't come back to see if anyone posted so please email me.

You should follow the trail of tar and feathers since your last meeting.

Um... that was some years before 96. John's first BASE was in Feb 91. so I would estimate 93 was the year of that infamous story.

For what it's worth, last I heard JV was on the run from the law, so I wonder if the original poster is really a friend of his, or someone looking for him for other reasons.

John fell to pieces after killing a your pedestrian girl while driving drunk. He tried to leave the country to evade prosecution and he was caught. He somehow managed to hire a super lawyer who got him off. I believe he sometimes skydives at one of the dropzones near the coast in Mississippi. Married, he got divorced.

I'm glad I set up my preferences to let me know if someone posted.

YOu guys must really hate that guy and after reading about killing the kid, I can see why.

The John I knew was funny, charismatic but always a bit too loosey goosey for me to sustain a long, on-going friendship. He seemed to have a death wish. I remember we'd go riding on our motorcycles (this was in Chicago where I grew up) and he had this, I dont know...devil may care attitude about his safety. And clearly killing a kid, he doesn't take anyone's life too seriously.

I loved reading your collective posts that I'm the asshole for being his friend. If you recall, many of you were his pals. I'm not defending him AT ALL. You kill a kid and run, you go to jail. FOREVER. But don't kill the messenger who has no clue about the fucking guy. I was just looking for an old pal. That's all.

would have clued you as to what you were wading into. And to the few of us here that actually knew John it wasn't a "friend" type of relationship. Most of us first heard of him, and his "me only" attitudes, only after he started burning jump sites all over the place.

But, overall it's very sad the way it all ended up . . .

John is a friend of mine though i haven´t seen him in some years. We all make mistakes and some worse than others. Let me know if you find him. tell him Tracy said hi.

I liked him too. He's not very responsible, and he's totally blind to the consequences of his actions, but he's a likable enough guy.

Just for the record, the mere fact of driving while intoxicated does not make one at fault in an accident situation. The fact that he was not held legally accountable for the girl's death is meaningful in a way that has nothing to do with having a good lawyer. Statistics do bear out the idea that pedestrians-particularly children--tend to be overly complacent about cars.

As for the original poster, his PMs to me indicate he is offended by my conclusion that he's the sort of person a "child killer" would befriend. All in all, if I were John, I wouldn't care to hear from him.

Finally, since the tar and feathers were mentioned, I would point out that lo these not-so-many years later, there would not be (because there has not been) a repeat tarring for similar misbehavior on the part of other individuals, some of whom have done far worse than what John did.

Do you mean that no other incidents involving actual tar and feathers have occurred (I agree)? or that no other physical altercations have taken place as a result of BASE disagreements of whatever kind (incorrect)?

Death wish or death tendencies?? I completed BASE with John in New Orleans. He was on probation. He got me 4 buildings in half as many days. He himself had two building strikes in a row. He trash packed a very clapped out, and trichmonas too, raven 4 and told me his best openings were 90's!! Never asked for thing. he had his demons.
