Exit Fear
Its too stupid to go in general BASE and its just a minor frustration. A simple change in wind and going off a different side can make me sit on an exit point, for a solid 5 minutes not jumping and just shitting my pants.

I hate exit fear.

Re: [Andy_Copland] Exit Fear
Hey dude, if it don't feel 100% right then don't jump, i'd much rather have a long hike down than spend a long time in a hospital bed Pirate

You've been told the story about me on the tall A, right?

Re: [Andy_Copland] Exit Fear
When (or if) the exit fear ever stops, I'm done. If I'm not afraid of this shit, not only have I gotten too comfortable with it, there is no reason to do it.

I LOVE exit fear.

(Hope to get back over there to jump soon. We can take turns saying "No, you go first, I'm not ready yet.")

Besides, it's probably more dangerous baking on that power tower than jumping off of it. I swear I got sunburn from that thing Wink

Andy,

My knees used to go like castinetts. (them clacky things Spanish dancers make noise with)

Listen to it, revel in it, heed it, overcome it.

strong feet..you need to feel power in your feet, you also need to find the key to the "fuck it il jump" door...this key is in you head, and one need to find it every single time..some have this key easely available others have them hide deeper in their mind..once you find this key you get the power in your feet and you just go for it...if you don`t find it..don`t jump, i jumped with a guy who stood at an exit for 35 min...suddenly hi yelled "i found it" and he jumped haha....

good luck!

Re: [Ghetto] Exit Fear
I quite often jump alone. I don't normally get to the exit point and spend a lot of time thinking about, what I'm about to do. However, I do spend a lot of the climb on my local 500footer, with some crazy stuff going on in my head.

I accept it as being part of the overall situation that I place myself in. If I didn't have those things going on in my head, It would probably be time to jack it in.

Once I stand on the top and walk to the rail I'm usually quite focused on what I'm about to do. I'm still shitting it though but it doesn't hold me back. Once I start my countdown, everything else in the world just does not matter. In fact....What world????

Re: [Parky1] Exit Fear
It is funny but I think 'The Count'
is the reason I was able to get off
my first solo/open/urban/crane.

I was in position, checked everything
about 23 times, and finally realized
there was nothing left to do but jump.

Did my count and off I went...

Of course out of the many times
I did climb down I am sure 'Exit Fear'
was the main reason a few times.

Re: [Andy_Copland] Exit Fear
im kind of developing a bad habit of go and throwing, (and im not referring to extremely low shit). ive already noticed that i open up higher and faster when i take a full second to second and a half delay with a 48, as opposed to a go n throw with my 48. the snatch force with some airspeed is so much more noticable.

i dont want to develop bad habits this early in my BASE career so im working on counting my delay out loud when i exit, its the only way that works for me.

exit fear gets me off for the record........

In reply to:
second and a half delay with a 48

Hey Chris,

Just curious from what altitude you choose to
use your 48" with that delay? Pin or Velcro?

I have copies of all the charts and reviewed
them, but also know that the publicized data
varies widely from what is done in the field.

Thanks for the 411.

Re: [sspindle] Exit Fear
Only climbed down from an A two or three times in career. Generally I believe it's safer to be in freefall than climbing down from an A. Climbing is way too dangerous, unless it's low freestander with too much tail wind...then there is no argueing. You have come a long way Andy in just last two weeks re: exits. take all the time you need...donna mind our ball busting
