Paraglider cutaway
I recently started paragliding, and being a base jumper am only interested in one thing - jumping out that thing Laugh

I have a spare set of risers to which i snuggly tied to my paragliding risers. I then connected the paraglider to my base rig running the cutaway cable through the paraglider risers. The base risers are permanently connected by putting a ring (the type you keep your keys together with) through the little string.

So there are two sets of risers connected to the BASE rig. I have flown the setup on many occasions but haven't got high enough yet to cutaway.

Does anyone see any problems with this setup? How much force will there be on the rings to keep the base risers intact on opening? Will the rings be strong enough? They are fairly think rings.

Re: [rakkers] Paraglider cutaway
ask a rigger but i believe there is only 5 pounds of force put on the cut away cable because of the 3 ring set up. so i would think the ring is enough.

Just don your rig and use the PG harness, and just forward roll out of the harness when its time.Safest way to exit and the added weight of harness will help your paraglider to decend quicker.Or just get a rigger to knock you up a yellow cable for your set up.

Have fun!

Before I start my sabatical..

Actually, I knew a guy that would take a milk jug with 5-10 lbs and have it in his lap. He would have a long string that he would connected to one toggle and would let it fall when he jumped. It would pull it down faster and drift less.

Just something to consider.

Nalgene bottle works well also.

I guess a powered-paraglider cutaway would be too expensive.

it would keep flying, in a circle. I bet if you bought gravityboyd's motor, it would be fine. it has easily replaceable sections if you bend one. not too expensive, just not worth doing it more than once to say you did it.

Confused.... Do both riser's "big rings" go thru the BASE rig's Attachment Ring? If so, then how do you make sure that one will not foul the other????

Leroy it always makes me warm and fuzzy when you talk about me that way. . . ha . . . . the water jug option works like a charm the wing comes down where you want it no stressing over a lost wing.

Thought I'd let you guys know that the jump went according to plan yesterday. Being worried about altitude I had packed my BASE rig slider down with a 46". I got really high though (approx 800 ft) so next time I'll pack slider up.

I was very nervous, but it was the most awesome feeling (Although it is not very nice being in a stand up position knowing you can't over delay with the slider downLaugh).

I didn't tie any weights to the glider but it came down pretty quick (before I landed) and didn't drift much.
