I have some thoughts, but what do you think about deployment stability and landing???

Re: [baseknut] Hanglider Jump
everything except for the deployment altitude says "student" to me. probably wrong though.

hahahaha.... yes. ultimate noob. If i'm wrong, there better be a wicked good excuse. LaughLaughLaugh

nice landing

Hang gliders are difficult to exit from.Cables get in the way.

do they provide an environment conducive to pound in from?

Re: [JamMasterJay] Hanglider Jump
If you catch a cable, two pound in for the price of one.

Re: [jawbreaker] Hanglider Jump
Okay. let me amend my previous statement to add everything after 3 seconds of free fall (that should be enough time to waive any excuse of 'difficult exit') through landing looks student level except the deployment altitude and the previously mentioned exit type.

naw man! I hang glide, I just think it would be a decent jolt/ temporary instability for the glider pilot and probably a few cuts or burns for the jumper. those flying wires are pretty strong.

Re: [Calvin19] Hanglider Jump
I'm planning on doing a base jump from a paraglider. Would it be a bad idea to use my skydiving rig? Can my skydiving rig be converted into a base rig?
Shortcut
Re: [baseknut] Hanglider Jump
Looks like a bad or lack of flare to me. Ouch.

I did a skydive with BASE gear from a two-place hanglider a while ago, released from it at around 1,500 feet. I exited facing the hanglider, fell on my back for about 3 seconds, flipped over and pitched when I got scared. There were no cables in the way that I can remember.

Skydiving gear may work, depending on the altitude, the gear, the landing area, your skills, weather, and more. If you have to ask here, you're probably not ready.

Re: [brianfry713] Hanglider Jump
I've got over 60 jumps mostly on this rig. I do feel very comfortable with this gear. I guess i'm just not sure how well my pilot chute will deploy my parachute when i'm only falling a few seconds...because it's closed with a pin and bagged with elastics rather than a velcro opening.

Re: [skyjules] Hanglider Jump
Well with a whole 60 jumps you should be fine. One small error though, no part of using a skydiving rig to exit a hang glider in any way constitutes a base jump. Seriously though, I probably wouldnt jump my skydiving gear from less than 2k, but then again i have a small snively canopy.

Re: [hjumper33] Hanglider Jump
I know it's not a base jump. My paragliding instructor said he glided up to about 5k a few weeks back and he's pretty excited to take me up with my rig. So, really, my rig doesn't need terminal speed to open? I'm sorry if i'm coming off as a bit of an amateur, just trying to be safe.

Re: [skyjules] Hanglider Jump
take a delay. free pack the lines except one or two stows. pack the with the nose exposed. don't die

ever do a hop-n-pop?

if so, then you were NOT at terminal speed.

if not, go do some. see how your equipment responds. different parachutes behave differently. how much altitude does it take for your parachute to open? then you will know how high the paraglider should be...

Exit is super easy with the right setup. Cables don't get in the way at all. I've done a few and it's way more fun that jumping off a para glider.

Re: [skyjules] PG Jumps
I have jumped at low altitudes from
ultralights with skydiving gear and
have coached/worked with many
skydivers at your skill level.

I agree with 2 of the above sentiments:

1) It will probably be fine, but fuck up just
one thing and it gonna get intense quick!

2) Do not try this stunt lower than you have
already jumped on a hop & pop due to the
different exit and slower air speed!

If you can hop & pop from cessna at 2K then
doing the same thing from this PG would only
be one new thing.

BUT with only 60 skydives you don't have a D
license so I doubt you have many low altitude
hop & pops. Chances are you have a few from
between 5,500 and 3,500.

If that is the case then trying 2,000 for the first
time from a new lift vehicle would be an unwise choice!

Re: [wwarped] Hanglider Jump
ya i've done lots of hop n pops, I guess you're right.
Shortcut
Re: [GreenMachine] PG Jumps
My PG instructor was telling me how he made it up to 5k the other day...that would definitely be ideal. However, i've done hop n pops at 3k several times. I'll definitely make that my bare min. altitude.

Re: [skyjules] PG Jumps
Yeah dude, a 3,000 hard deck is smart!

Of course a few years from now when
you got a ton of SKY & BASE jumps &
the right gear then anything above
300 feet or so would be jazzy Wink

Re: [skyjules] PG Jumps
screw it man you only live once... wait till your reserve is due for a repack, jump off and pull your reserve... whats the worst that could happen...
no really i would say go do some hot air balloon jumps before you jump from the PG. a hot air balloon can go much higher. i have got 12,500 ft from a balloon before. but that will give you the feeling of no air stability. but also i would say go do at least 50 more skydives before you try any of it.

Re: [skyjules] PG Jumps
i was talking to a friend about this last night and he brought up a good point. a 2 man glider is designed to have both people in it and are off set to keep the weight balanced evenly. if all of a sudden one of the body's is gone its going to shift the weight more to one side and might cause the wing to go out of control. anyone have any input for this. i have also been thinking about jumping from one.

No it won't.
