and someone goes in and there not your best friend but just someone you jump with.

Whats the right thing to do

Thats easy!

1. Steal his gear

2. move the body

3. call the police and say he tripped

4. do like Houdini and disappear!

follow these steps and nothing can go wrong.

if thats a legit question then do whoever you've been jumping with a favor and start doing solo's. the fact that your curious what to do if the person is not your 'best' friend means your a heartless bastard. i hope i never have to jump with u.

I would try to keep them alive if they are not in pieces, or revive them

and call 911, and stick around. I cannot justify anything else.


the worst sit, that make my heart hurt, is when I have been jumping with family as ground crew. My wee sister crew a lot for me, and that would just SUCK.

talk to her. make sure she understands. you may be surprised and find that she WANTS to be the person there if tragedy struck. some loved ones would not let anyone take that spot... it would suck, but still be less painful than getting a call from the police...

oh, and do your best to AVOID it!

and I have. I even had my ma crew for me once, years ago. my mom, even though I honestly think she is fucking clueless beyond all reason (as far as BASE goes [why and how]), she does want to be there, if something does happen. and Ill take her word for it. but -I- don't want her to be there for that.

if anyone can actually be solid in that position, its sister. she has been around BASE for many years, and is scared to shit of heights, but she gets it. and thats why I ask her to come. I spent the last week making her the getaway driver all over wisonsin...

Besides the heartless factor of fleeing, there are considerations about the consequences of being busted. e.g., a cop who base jumps, a lawyer, gov't. employee, etc.

If they need help....well that's easy. Unless it's hikeat, cause he told me I could have his body armour and it looked pretty sweet.

Really though...if I watch someone go in, my job or a night in jail would be the last thing on my mind. I don't think I would ever leave anyone behind....especially if their gear didn't fit me.

Dude, whenever you don't jump alone (other jumpers or just GC), that shit needs to be talked over and figured out before hand. Nick called it "the pact". I personally always stay behind unless there's already a lot of people around who are smart enough to do the right things. I am in one of those special cases where I can't really afford to get caught---doesn't matter someone's life is always more important than my career. Often that means no jumping for me so I can still help out and probably not get busted.

I'm sorry--if a few nights in jail worst case is more important than someone else bleeding to death at the base of an A, then you're messed up. Regardless just talk it over before the jump so you are both on the same page and have a plan, that way your dying friend knows he needs to phone an ambulance on his cell while you drive to arby's.

I had a really bad jump and got busted up.All I expected from my friends was to give first aid,take my gear and my car and call 911.i did ask that they tell the meat wagon where I was laying and get lost.Hell everyone cant go to jail,someone has to bail you out and equiment cost too much to donate to local law enforcement.Its something you need to go over in a prejump meeting,other than whos buying the beer and where the lighter the fire in the blunt went out.The Really good question is would you still jump if you saw you friend burn in, are would you climb down.

depends on the jump, bust factor, difficulty of downclimb, cause if burn in (shitty conditions might mean a no follow situation), consequences for jumping, maybe the burner is moving, obviously still alive and needs help fast.
I remember before before I was a regular BASE jumper, I watched Dwain W. at the GFG '03. we could not see from the bridge how bad it was, TONS of confusion. Me and my climbing partner were convinced he was moving on the ledge. at the time, the first year of the games, me and my partner were easily the most equipped and ready as far as cliff rescue goes, and could have been to him in minutes. we geared up for the 800' rap fast but then got in contact with the LZ. they had found the other half and said don't bother.

I think a good idea for all jumps where big distance is a factor, a mini scope would come in handy.

If I were a jumper, which I'm not, so maybe this is uncalled for, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to jump with someone who would be more worried about a few legalities if things went wrong. Really, trespassing etc. being more worrisome than someone being dead or really really injured? I sure wouldn't care about some money or probation or a record at that moment. That's like being worried about being sued if someone's dying right in front of you. Would you rather watch them die, or risk the consequences and know they're alive because you deemed it?

Would you be able to live with yourself if you did nothing, just walked away and called a tip?

But what do I know. I'm land-locked.

Friend of mine (now in IRAQ) yells "I'm going stowed" and jumps off a 300 ft freestander. BLAM - I hear the metal roof on the shed below. Fuckin hands were monster shaking trying to get ready for the hurry up hand held exit after that.

i when I go in i will most likely have an once of blow on me and a bunch of cash so knowing the carck heads I jump with there going to have to dig it outf of my pockets and I will once again have the last laugh hahahahh.
