Carl Boenish BASE films
My first post (oh no, is the beer rule also applicable in this community? I assume so) after lurking a while.

I've read many references to the famous 1978 El Cap films by Carl Boenish, but never seen them. Anyone know where to find them (online or for sale)?

I did buy from this place 5 years ago, ubt it is on VHS pal, and one of the movies is sold out by the moment!

I am not sure if he is going to upgrade his movies to DVD, but if you ask you might get an answer! I would love to get my hand on his old movies upgraded to DVD!

Have a nice one!

Good luck. I do know that Scissorkick Films was making a documentary on BASE and they worked a deal with Jean Boenish to transfer some old footage over and work it into the film. I know many jumpers won't come out and say it in the open, but I don't mind letting everyone know that Jean's a "hamburger shy of a happy meal". The last time I spoke with her, she was trying to weasel her way out of responsibility for her student's fatality at BD2006. Beware.

I don't know Jean. She might be nuts, but that doesn't sound fair. The dude was a grown up. I thought we were all responsible for ourselves out there.

Most jumpers don't know Jean either. Yes, Brian's fatality was 100% Brian's fault, but Jean began a campaign to direct blame towards us and I'll never forgive her for that. Of course, she also had an interest in taking back BD, so her smear campaign against us was a business tactic. Jean helped train Brian at BD2006 and she traveled to BD with him. Why would anyone question the skills of a jumper who was trained by Jean Boenish, Johnny Utah, and other big name jumpers? It's quite ironic that these big name jumpers all disappeared immediately after the fatality and some redirected their guilt towards others.

A few hours after Brian's fatality, several of my staff sat down with Jean where she tried to tell us we should have known. She told us about numerous "red flags" with Brian's behavior that she noticed in the week prior to BD2006, but she FAILED to tell us BEFORE he jumped. If she had informed us about them, we would not have let Brian jump. I do place a small amount of blame on Jean for not informing us until after the fatality.

Then she talked to the LA Times newspaper and told them "she would not have let Brian jump if she was in charge". That statement is QUITE contradictory since she trained him.

In addition, I tried to pay her airfare, car rental, and hotel for a trip to BD2004/5 as a guest speaker, but that wasn't good enough. She wanted a food allowance and car rental for a few weeks to visit her relatives.

So now you know a little bit about Jean Boenish and my story is 100% truthful. She caused me, my family, Brian Schubert's family (who threatened to sue her), and many others a lot of pain. Sorry, this stuff has been bottled up inside for nearly two years and I feel other jumpers need to know this if they ever decide to deal with her.

Sorry for the way you feel and were treated. Can you tell us why some jumpers try to "protect" jean? Is it because her man was who he was to BASE?

Carl's films are incredibly amazing. Try to get a copy of BASE 1 or BASE 2 if you can. Someone stole mine, darn it.

Yep, too many details, but he needed to know who he's dealing with. Actually, I have some of Carl's films on VHS and I need to transfer them to DVD soon. Gotta love the classical music (royalty free) that's prevalent in Carl's films. Maybe I'll burn some DVD's and hand them out to everyone?

The german company has the rights to the PAL versions (legitimately purchased a long, long time ago).

Jean Boenish holds all the rights to the NTSC versions.

Ironically, Brian himself paid all expenses for Jean's 2006 trip. We all travelled together, which became very difficult for those of us who were close to Brian on the way back to California. In my opinion, Jean seemed to see Brian's death as something of an opportunity, rather than as the loss of a friend who had treated her with nothing but kindness and generosity from the moment they met.

Please note that this has been bottled up inside me for nearly two years as well. Thanks for breaking the "ice".
