Trading Objects
Just curious how other people feel about this.

Joar and I were talking this weekend. I'm vaguely familiar with this "book" somewhere in europe that has tons of exit points listed in it.

1) How do you feel about sharing your objects in exchange for access to several others?

2) Do you think people would still be responsible and contact the locals before they jump objects out of their area?

3) Would it be beneficial?

4) How would you moderate access, especially amongst groups of locals that don't get along.

There's been a lot of discussion behind it.

Base has been an underground activity for a long time, especially because of the legal issue related to urban or illegal areas.

Few people here in Europe are working hard to making our sport recognized and respected.

They founded the Paralpinism Association, (restricted natural sites - ie. cliffs only) and managed to integrate our sport in the French Mountain Sports Federation, thus allowing us to beneficiate from an insurance and the recognition of Basejumping in natural areas.

It goes in the same way than any other mountain activity, promoting the respect for the sites and the nature, and giving information to avoid any conflictual situation.

They edited the book for the Paralpinism Association members only, so people accept the relative mindset and conditions of the association. The book is shared for the safety of the participants and for having actual information specific to each site. Almost all of them are legal, and it's our responsibility to keep it this way.

It's better for everyone if someone goes jumping to the most aproriate site (level of difficulty and legality issue) rather than if a newbie hurt himself on a sketchy site because he didnt know better.

Every people coming in the Alps is welcome from anywhere and encouraged to contact any Base Association, other club or active basejumper around the main spots in France, Switzerland or Italy, to get proper, actual information and any advice needed.

We are enjoying wild areas in a wonderful way; we are acomplising the biggest human dream; we're just flying from mountains, leaving no traces but turbulences in the air.

All we need to do in counterpart is respecting the sites and giving just a little effort to promote the public perception of basejumping.

I think sharing the information is really beneficial. Besides, I don't see why people would'nt contact the locals before jumping.

First, it's a question of respect, second, the locals are most of the time very happy to share information with others, third, they are always good mates to jump and share beers with.

That's interesting, I've always heard of this big secret book. But didn't know there was an association tied to it. Thanks for sharing this information.

Don't worry it's still big and very secret, as any "basejumper association" is no more than a little group of mates Smile

Anyway when you're around the Alps, you just have to buy a detailed topographic map and you'll see it's really easy to spot the most interesting exit points...
