Memorial Weekend @ Twin Falls, ID
Hey, all

I've been thinking about livening the atmosphere around the bridge over memorial weekend. Going to bring out some speakers, and blare some music. Maybe organize some friendly accuracy/flipy-doo-dad competition.

Who's heading down this direction?

Any other suggestions for stuff to do?

Twin Falls BASE Association is planning on handing out trash bags, and encouraging jumpers to help clean the canyon... I believe. Forgot to mention that.

At my age, my extreme sport is watching. I have watched the good and the bad for several years. Give you guys and gals credit for the challenge.

Stopped by last Saturday at Perrine bridge with a few going off. Asked one if the jumpers were locals. He said he was from Mississippi. Three that went off were from Pennsylvania. He said he'd hooked in with someone from California and two from London. Guess most weren't locals.

Enjoy on Memorial Day weekend. Cheers.

The Twin Falls BASE WTF? Damn, 18 months is longer than i thought...
Do we have to join the club to carry trash up, or can we haul shopping carts out for sport like the olden days?

Is the paper really being that bad? I haven't lived in Twin for 2.5 years so I haven't seen it myself. I really hope this is a misunderstanding, otherwise I'm, in a way, sleeping with the enemy. I'm moving back in with my mother in Twin who is a sports reporter for the Times News. I was always pretty sure she liked us jumpers.

I don't know, I just get the impression from other jumpers/reading the paper (a mistake?) that the paper is "out to get us" for lack of a better set of words. Like they are using a couple bad things that happen to pit it against BASE Jumpers, just to make a little headline to sell a couple more copies of their rag.

If I am incorrect, so be it, but I would rather see good things that BASE jumpers are doing in TF, other than just the occasional injury. I mean where else in the world normally can a broken ankle make the front freaking page?

ADDED:

Maybe you could ask your mom or other reporter to look into writing an article on TFBA and their clean up and beautification efforts in the valley? Maybe TFBA might adopt a section of highway? There is tons of "easy" stuff you can do to promote BASE in a positive light. The easiest, or hardest if you please, thing to do is stay unhurt...

I am not mad or bitter, I just wish the best for TF, even if I am on the east coast... Maybe TomA could branch this into a new post?

no, you don't have to join "the club" to help.

no, it's not REALLY that bad. The most recent incident was a broken ankle in the canyon, that took a helicopter ride out. It made FRONT PAGE news. I personally blame the jumper more then the newspaper.

they aren't "out to get us" ... they are a business, like any other business their primary goal is to make money. We as jumpers have to realize that they aren't "plotting against us." We just SELL newspapers.

Suggestion; You may want to contact Nikki D or the TF chamber of commerce before you do this. There may be a permit required before using a sound system at the visitor center/park.

You may also want to consider that it is a public park. Considering the conservative background of the general population of Twin, you could offend more than you entertain.

I should be there, unless I decide not to go at the last minute. I'll pick up the trash that I see.

I've already purchased plane tickets, so I'm going to Twin Falls regardless of how the weather turns out this weekend. If the weather ends up being total crap, what is there to do in the area to stay entertained? Suggestions?

Go deer hunting with my car. It's already has 3 kill's what a few more.

Re: [freeflychris] Memorial Weekend @ Twin Falls, ID
I'll have a rental car. We can get twice the number of deer in the same amount of time if we team up.

There is always "NAZZKARTS" indoor go-karting downtown. For extra excitement, wear your rig, when you get go-kart up to 40MPH, toss-out your PC. Sly

Any locals got any fellings about how the weather is looking? Been watching online all week and looks like it could go either way and can't decide if it's worth the drive and gas $.
