Best track?
So I took my first few tracking suit skydives, and in trying my palms facing the sky, I felt a distinctly steeper angle. Later, I read on the PF website that you get the best distance with a bit of a steeper flight.
Experiences? Does anybody track with their palms facing up?

Only when I am checking my altitude.

Whether I am tracking belly down or
leading on my back -- my palms are
towards the earth/air flow.

Re: [thecount] Best track?
palms to the sky ...yes....
but its important to turn the ellbows a little to the outside,...extends the surface area,...more control of the angle....Wink

Re: [thecount] Best track?
palms up - distance
palms down - time

While some generalizations can be made, no one can absolutely say wich one will make you go further. since your body is shaped differently than any other in the universe, you will have to make that decision for yourself. I believe i remember reading that Robert Pecnik tracks with his palms down in his tracking suit, while others choose the inverse. I guess you'll just have to do a few jumps to figure it out (darn).

Your own mileage will vary, but after break-off on 8-way jumps my mate and I used to have tracking races (who could go further the fastest) and I would pretty consistently leave him behind (I always track palms up) until he started tracking palms up also.

As someone mentioned above though everyone's different... Smile

Short answer : Yes, plenty of people. Then again plenty of people track palms down as well. We spoke extensively about tracking with PF tracking suit with Robi last winter in ITW and he said that there is not one right way to track with the suit. Everybodys body is built differently, the center of mass is different, weight distribution is different, arm and leg lengths and their ratio is different, surface area, wingloading, you name it variables are different from jumper to jumper. So what works for me might not work for you and vice versa. So go experiment palms up, palms down, wider legstance, narrower body position, different angle of attacks, different launches etc and find the one mehtod that works for you.

Re: [maretus] Best track?
The secret of good tracking is in upper body position and the angle more than anything else.
Will the hands be turn this or that way is really minor.
Best example is Coomebesy (Oz jumper) who was one of the best tracker I have ever seen. His body in tracking was looking almost relaxing.. easy. That is the point! Angle he had was perfect , and rest was just physics.
Check out some of his video and copy.

I have found my best tracks to always come when my palms are down, but I think it is probably something very personal.

I have a Corvus from EG suits. I have found that with palms up, cupping the shoulders its easier and more effective. Just stand up and try it and you'll see what I mean.
