Are wilderness areas legal to jump or do they fall under NPS regs?

You might want to check with the individual State and area. They don't fall under NPS regs (AFAIK), but are closed to mechanized transport, bicycles and hang gliders. Also, the landing of aircraft is prohibited without a permit.

Thanks for the info, I will keep checking, wonder how a ranger might interpret some of these rules.

Re: [helibase659] Wilderness areas
Just got some news on this one..

BASE jumping is a prohibited activity in BLM designated "Wilderness Areas" and
"Wilderness Study Areas".
Unless BASE has some history with the individual area and was grandfathered in as an approved activity.

Fines and jail time not to exceed BLM limitations. Frown

Thanks, the site is known by the rangers that it has been jumped in the past but we had no input as we found out after the fact.
