I'm looking for advise on which video camera to buy for top mount. I would like mini DV and I prefer Sony. Any suggestions and reasons why you chose your favorite camera are appreciated.

I went from a pc1000 side mount to a CX7 top mount this season for BAse / skydiving.
Pros- lighter no tape cost hd
cons- Different format (AVHD) No cameye Memory stick cost (initally)
Glad I did it. I like it... Downside is next purchase will be a new computer for editing....
I own 3 of them cause they are cheap, work great, and use universal cables.
By the way, if you need a camera helmet let me know cause I got a full face top mount for sale -- comes with ring sight and camera light indicator plus it can hold a video on top and stills up front.
The HC5 was just discontinued, so places are selling them cheap. Got one from the local Best Buy for $450 plus $140 for a 3 year "accidental damage" warranty.
HD or SD recording, LANC port, MiniDV format, 37mm wide angle thread mount, perfect for top mount.

One vote for HC5 from here too! I bought one recently and have been jumping with it for couple jumps now. I used to have PC1000 side mounted but have been really positively suprised with HC5 top mounted. It also has some other (not listed above) cool features that might be handy in BASE like super night shot and smooth slow rec. Also it is the only SONY HC -series camera available that has EIS (Electronical Image Stabilization) so if you plan to use it in skydiving also the HC5 might be good choice over HC7/HC9 (which both use OIS and they have been reported to have some unwanted image jittering when doing freeflying).
