Setting up a bank account in Europe (euros)
So, I have no idea if I can do this or how it will work, but you guys are smart...

I am saving for a huge trip I will be taking next year, and most of it is going to be in Europe. I want to set up a savings account there mainly because the dollar is getting sucky-er, and I really don't want to have my money in America while I'm abroad. I also think it'll be easier to deal with paying attention to exchange rates while I'm still at my comfy home. It's going to start off with a really small amount ~$500(USD) so it's not like I need wealth management, just a small reliable bank.

So does anyone have any ideas or know-how in this type of thing? I'm really shooting in the dark here, and all information would be great.

Send me all your money, I'll take care Pirate

A product which might be interesting for you is "Tagesgeldkonto" (call-money account?) You get more interest in comparison with a giro account.

There are several banks offering that service. If you manage to get a resident somewhere in europe, its a lot easy to open an account, if not, you've to check out non-residential-service.

You can also open a Euro account at one of the major banks in your home town. Just call around.

You deposit any currency and it is converted on the spot into Euros and sits there until you need it.

I live in Korea and a lot foreigners do this to avoid getting screwed by flucuating exchange rates.

Let us know what you finally decided to do.
