Basejumper.com - archive

Recently this site has become agonizingly slow to load, every topic, post, thread takes up to a minute. No problems on any other website. Running newer iMac, Safari, cable fed. Has there been a swittch to something with compatibility problems with Safari?

Does safari use 100% cpu ??
I have this problem on this site with Opera with GNU/Linux
No problem with Firefox ...

Can't say for sure but I'v been using Safari for a year, this problem is new and unique to this website.

I had a similiar problem over the weekend:

Mac G5 w/ 2 gigs of ram and DSL connection.

Odd...

I have an iBook G4 and a really crappy DSL connection (I live literally in the middle of nowhere), and I haven't had a problem at all with Safari on this site. It loads at a similar speed as any other.

It's all good now...

But over the weekend the
site was kind of S L O W.

I'm running Safari on a newer (Dec 07) iMac, via cable and haven't had any problems. Is this still happening to you?

It's as bad as ever, I cringe every time I go to this site which is infrequently now. It is still the only website that has a problem, I tried it on my other Mac with Netscape but it was just as bad. Shrug.

Yes, Firefox on WinXP through a lousy DSL connection is plenty fast for me.

Funny, with all the viruses written for PC somebody apparently has written one for Mac that affects only basejumper.com. That's seriously twisted. Do you think it was Seth?

Recently this site began slowly returning to normal (on my system), now it seems to be running at full speed. No other website was ever affected. Probably never know what happened.

 
Fuck I'm slow sometimes. What happened is Name Media. AKA Big Brother. Personally I don't give a rat's ass who knows that I jump off stuff but as far as PM info goes I'll never again trust this site.

Thank you NameMedia for fixing this website for me. I still intend to support BASEjumper.com as a source of general information. Nobody uses the open forums for discrete information anyway, the only change, and it's something we should have all kept in mind anyway, is the privacy of PMs.

Tom, you can believe what you want and you may be 100% correct about the continued privacy of PMs here but I'm not willing to take a chance. I believe that I have every reason to return to my 60's distrust of government/corporate interference in private lives. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to getcha.

This thread actually predates Namemedia's involvement in the site. Definitely post here again if you have problems, though. I'll be on it ASAP.
